Supreme Court Rules Corporations Are Free to Dominate Elections -- Citizens' Movement Emerges to Overrule the Court
National coordinated campaigns unite to revoke corporate personhood, corporate "free speech," and secure citizens' rights


Jan 21, 9:03 AM, BOZEMAN, MT - The Supreme Court dropped the pretense of impartially interpreting the Constitution today in favor of unabashed activism on behalf of corporate power, overruling century-old legislative precedent and decades-old precedent of its own.

The Court enshrined corporations -- an entity unmentioned in the U.S. Constitution -- with the political rights of human beings, overturning settled law that distinguishes between corporate and individual expenditures in elections.

In response, two citizen coalitions have emerged with the explicit mission of overruling the Supreme Court via amending the Constitution. ReclaimDemocracy.org is among more than one dozen citizen groups that have joined forces to advance Move to Amend, a call to amend the Constitution to revoke the Court's illegitimate creation of “corporate personhood,” as well as establishing a constitutional Right to Vote and safeguarding local democracy.

A more narrowly-focused coalition has emerged specifically to overrule the Court's invention of corporate “political free speech.” The groups, Voter Action, Public Citizen, the Center for Corporate Policy, and the American Independent Business Alliance, also unveiled a new website to launch their campaign: FreeSpeechForPeople.org.

Their goal is to amend the Constitution to make clear that corporations are not people entitled to free speech rights under the First Amendment. A bill may be introduced in Congress as early as today.

1. Every local community should be crafting local ordinances to fight this...

If we can legislate so many cases where we won't allow "corporate free speech" and VERY specifically address that this legislation is put in place BECAUSE "corporate personhood" has no basis in the consitution, it would FORCE any appeals courts or the SCOTUS to address the unconstitutional and "Court clerk activist" decision that inflicted this corporate personhood crap on us.

Perhaps if we craft this language carefully enough and share it with every other community that puts in place this legislation, then we can either:

a) force the higher courts to ignore these resolutions for fear of being forced to overturn their "corporate personhood" rules and therefore the grass roots law will trump these newer rules in each community.

b) Force the examination of Santa Clara vs. Southern Pacific Railroad case which could in effect force them to overturn this ruling if they want to fight these cases.

Could this work? If our national politicians won't deal with it, perhaps we can force them to do so from the ground up, much like Bugliosi has been trying to get local courts to prosecute Bush too.

3. The amendment offered at Free Speech For People is too narrow.

Any amendment needs to make clear that corporations are not people and cannot avail themselves of any right guaranteed by the Constitution to the people. Corporate personhood extends beyond Free Speech.
