Laura B*sh to recieve Honorary Law Degree and be Commencement speaker
First Lady to Deliver Seaver College 2007 Commencement Address

Pepperdine University is pleased to announce that First Lady Laura Bush will be the 2007 Seaver College Commencement speaker and recipient of Pepperdine’s Honorary Doctor of Laws degree. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, Apr. 28, at 10:30 a.m. on Pepperdine’s Malibu campus.

Mrs. Bush is Honorary Ambassador for the United Nations Literacy Decade, serving as an international spokesperson for efforts to educate people throughout the world, especially women and girls. She is actively involved in issues of national and global concern, with a particular emphasis on education, health care, and human rights.

As the leader of President Bush's Helping America's Youth initiative, Mrs. Bush is listening to the concerns of young people, parents, and community leaders throughout the country and drawing attention to programs that help children avoid risky behaviors like drug and alcohol use, early sexual activity, and violence. She's highlighting the need of every child to have a caring adult role model in his or her life - whether that adult is a parent, grandparent, teacher, coach, or mentor.>>>>snip

1. Wasn't kenneth starr penciled in to be president of Pepperdine
before the grand old party needed him for other duties? That award will be as significant as being designated a fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

5. too bad, you obviously have never been a Librarian.
You might have had an easier route.

Pepperdine University is a private institution of higher learning
affiliated with the Church of Christ. The university's location
overlooks the Pacific Ocean in Malibu, California.

Pepperdine also appeared on other lists including "Students Pray on a Regular Basis,"
and "High Quality of Life." Because of its Christian affiliation, many contend that the
student body breeds a religious and politically conservative atmosphere<3>.
Princeton Review also ranked Pepperdine University #13 in its list
"Alternative Lifestyles not an Alternative," a list ranking the universities
that harbor the greatest degree of homophobia and discrimination against homosexuals

14. As a fellow J.D. who actually earned that degree,
I can't beging to articulate how deeply offensive this is to me, and should be to everyone else who has put in the hard, sanity-imperiling work of becoming a Juris Doctor. I hope to Flying Spaghetti Monster that the ABA puts to kibosh on this degradation of our profession.

4. She is actively involved in health care and human rights...
that's sure news to me. She should start with health care in this country and I think some of the prisoners in Gitmo could use some human rights.

10. Pepperdine Law School - William Scaife's pet project.
I know that William Scaife (who funded the Arkansas Project in order to trump up charges against the Clintons and had also funded the Nixon illegal political plumbers group to the tune of like one million dollars)also funded the law school and Kenneth Starr was to be the Dean.

Seems like the law school started in the 90s. Perhaps someone should check and see how many of their nutty graduates work for Gonzo.
