Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 06:00 PM by Fly by night
There is a reason why the DU moderators encourage us to check to see if the same topic has already been posted before posting it again (and again and again and again .... X 14.)

Slow day at DU or .... what?

I wouldn't mind seeing a hundred posts on this.

6. It didn't take long. 14 OPs were posted in the last 90 minutes.
So it took about a minute to count 'em.

I wish it were a slow day here. Seldom is. But thanks for caring.

8. Now that could be.
As for me, I'd prefer 14 separate pieces of good news than the same good news 14 times.

Makes this forum look a bit desperate for good news, doncha think?

(Of course, that could be.)

7. If good citizens check for duplicates, there are precious few good citizens here.
Everyone seems to think they have the most wise and clever things to post that nobody has ever thought of before. News is not news at DU unless it gets posted 4 times the day it happens and then for the next 3 days.

12. Four times, ok. Fourteen times, a bit much.

But you're right. There is a tendancy to prefer to be the OPer than just a respondent to a post.

It's hard work sitting on our hands sometimes.

How about when we get buried in Palin threads?

14. This is what a depressed base looks like.
When something like this happens, as awesome as it is, a depressed base will overplay it. We needed a reminder of the kind of political influence we're resisting in this country.

ReTHUGS had no problem giving him coverage 24/7. We haven't begun to overplay this.

I'm loving the whole story myself. I made up the term Teabuggers already.

16. Nothing slow at all-- This criminal activity is too similar to the Troopergate bullshit
of the 90s.

The frikking media beyond Olbermann and Maddow better get their journalistic balls/ovaries in place and call it what it is.

Time for some good old blood letting.

17. Oh-oh, Board Nanny is counting posts and reporting 'em! Quick, look busy!
Of late, how often has DU had something to crow about? Why the need to play Board Nanny?

Why not just let everyone run with it? Are the additional threads causing you serious pain or inconvenience?

23. Some posters must have ahem a thread with their name as the OP.
Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 06:38 PM by TexasObserver
It doesn't matter if there are 50 threads up, all about the same thing, there are a half dozen posters who must start THEIR thread, because no other person's thread will do.

25. Thanks. Instead of concentrating information (and discussion) on a story on a few OPs, ...
... we dilute it across 20+ OPs on the same topic (which this topic now has on the Greatest page.)

I haven't seen this sort of duplicative frenzy here before, and I've been here for over five years. I think one of the comments above explains it well -- this is what a depressed base looks (and acts) like.

Never been called a Board Nanny here before either, but whatever. Now to move on to another forum, 'cause the news here is looking pretty repetitive and recycled here.

26. Yes, I never cease to marvel at how many threads one topic can generate.
There will be five threads, all based upon the same news article, on the first page at the same time. I am confident when I say that some posters NEVER look at the board before they start posting threads. Hey, it's not about the news. It's about them.

I share your disdain for the overcoverage of topics, but some posters are obsessively, compulsively driven to start threads with their name as the OP.
