Homeless man reunited with his cat
Homeless man reunited with his cat

(02-09) 18:24 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Samantha, the pug-nosed cat and Daniel Harlan, a homeless man who owned her were reunited today.

Harlan wept when Tom Neville, who had the missing cat for weeks, gave Samantha back.

"I thought I'd lost her for good," Harlan said.

The cat and Harlan got together again after The Chronicle ran a story this morning, along with a picture, about the cat's disappearance. Neville saw it and recognized Samantha as the animal he rescued from life on the streets.

-----------

Neville said he asked around, but nobody knew anything. So he picked up the cat, put it in his car and took her to work.

Harlan said he put the cat on a leash while he went to get food at a nearby store. When he returned, Samantha - his companion for nearly four years - was gone.

-----------

Neville offered to buy the cat, but Harlan said he couldn't sell her. So Neville gave the cat back, along with some cat food and $40 to help out.

He also gave the cat a standing invitation to stay in his office, any night.

Harlan used the money to buy a new collar and leash for Samantha along with a cart with wheels for the cat, a sleeping bag and a few necessities.

1. damn damn damn....

I have to leave the office and drive home but now I'm bawling like a baby. I'm the crazy neighborhood cat guy in my my 'hood. If I end up homeless in my old age, it'll be just like Daniel Harlan, with a cat or seven.

so much for supporting the troops...most homeless are homeless due to lack of support of some kind, number one cause of homelessness is lack of affordable housing...glad he got his cat back!!

25. Maybe there's still hope that my C.C. will be found.
He ran off the night before I moved (3 hours away!) last summer. Countless posters, ads in the paper, weekly trips back to look for him, lots of phone calls and tips, but no cat....

Please, if any of you read this, please offer prayers/good thoughts for his (CC's) safe return.

or several. I would rather be homeless than without my fur family. I'm so glad that Neville did the right thing and reunited them! Samantha is giving him a little love squint there. :-)

My furkids:

Oberon and Puck:

Pippin and Merry (Merrimack):

Hopefully I'll be able to hold on to my house for all five of us!

42. Oberon (the big guy) is a Maine Coon, the other two fluffy ones are
Turkish Angoras, and the tuxedo boy is a domestic short hair pound rescue kitty. Maine Coons are indeed very loyal, sweet cats! Oberon is a total love bug. All of them are-though Merrimack (the tuxedo boy) is usually only a super love bug when treats are involved!

36. Love the standing invitation!
I bet it was hard for Neville to give Samantha back to Harlan, knowing that she'd have a better life if he kept her.

But it was the right thing for Neville to do, and it was really a nice thing for him to offer her a place to stay any night. Homeless shelters do not typically accept pets.

We need more Tom Nevilles in this world!
