Is Virginia the new Florida?
Edited on Wed Feb-10-10 09:34 AM by FSogol
1. Republican Speaker of the State House, William J. Howell lobbied to pass a bill that helps one Fortune 500 company avoid Asbestos cases and couldn't be prouder of his total corruption to aid a sleazy contributer.

2. A vote to ban microchips in humans is seen as a way to "save humanity from the antichrist."

From the Washington Post: "Del. Mark L. Cole (R-Fredericksburg), the bill's sponsor, said that privacy issues are the chief concern behind his attempt to criminalize the involuntary implantation of microchips. But he also said he shared concerns that the devices could someday be used as the "mark of the beast" described in the Book of Revelation.

"My understanding -- I'm not a theologian -- but there's a prophecy in the Bible that says you'll have to receive a mark, or you can neither buy nor sell things in end times," Cole said. "Some people think these computer chips might be that mark.""

Cole goes on to state that "I just think you should have the right to control your own body."

Wonder what his anti-abortion supporters think about that?

Gawd, the stupidity and corruption hurts.

1. Can you please try to explain what is wrong with Florida?
Granted, we have our share of knuckleheads and although some events have been publicized more than others, it's nothing the other 49 don't have.

3. I also am getting tired of Florida bashing
EVERY state has it's looneys . . . as you point out

I wish we could actually get the rule about broad-brush insults based on regions enforced.

but somehow Florida does seem to get singled out. There's one web site in particular (fark.com) that pokes fun at that state by giving it its own news icon:

6. I have seen it . . . and I find it ridiculous that DUers would propagate this message
by posting that web site and allowing the bashing that is sure to follow.

2. sadly, a lot of state houses are like this
especially for the yokel districts where a couple of thousand votes can get you in...

one of my casual unscientific observations over the years is the smaller the scale of government, the more insane, power-hungry and despotic people find their way into it...going down from sparsely-populated state house districts, to rural county councils and school boards, to small town councils, to civic/neighborhood associations (the absolute worst I have ever seen)

5. Odd...I didn't see any mention of Florida at all in your OP.
What's that about? If you're going to compare places, don't you think you should at least mention some compararison? Unrecced for region bashing.

12. They can ban all the chips they want, I just don't want it done under the guise of defeating the
anti-Christ. I expect more out of my elected officials.
