Local Chapter of Nutters - schools beware
Edited on Wed Feb-10-10 11:08 AM by Screwball
I live in a small town in Ohio. We have a local chapter of conservatives who are an activists group. They are about 70 strong, have their own website and Facebook page.

To give you a little history their site "used" to be open to the general public, but since I had a few conversations with them, they kicked me off and now you must register to see or talk to them. They worship, and I mean WORSHIP Glenn Beck, and really have a man crush on Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, and Breitbart. Words cannot come close to describing their feelings for Sarah Palin. Their dream ticket for 2012 is Beck/Palin or Palin/Beck.

These people have had tea parties, marched to the river and threw tea in it, have candidates come to their meetings speak, the whole deal. But here's the kicker, and one I don't think people should overlook. If this bunch of fucknuts are doing this, many other groups will probably follow suit. I think is must be in their manifesto somewhere. I created a bogus Facebook account, e-mail, etc, so I could keep an eye on what these goofballs are up to since I have to live amongst them. Today I noticed this entry on their facebook page about their "education committee."

We had our first meeting on 2/04/10. It was decided to each individual to go their perspective local school districts and investigate what is their curriculum on the Constitution and at which grade do they start the education and what the education covers. We will meet in 2 weeks at 5:30PM at 'XXXXXX’ before the full group meeting and report what we have found and start to establish a forum to implement at the schools.

Any further Ideas or suggestions feel free to post.

ON EDIT: I changed the title to add - schools beware.

XXXXX XXXXXXXX
Chairman - Education Committee

The last think I want to see is these idiots telling our schools what to teach our kids. Actually, I feel sorry for the schools having to deal with these delusional clowns. Any group that worships Beck and Co. are not only goofy, but dangerous.

This is just a heads up so you can keep an eye on your local chapter of nutjobs and their potential attempt to "indoctrinate" your kids. Friken hypocrites!

Their website can be found here - http://www.northcentralconservatives.com/

1. thank you for posting, Screwball. I forwarded this to some of my educator friends in Ohio along w:
"changes to the Texas curriculum are likely to impact other states "

NATION
History Textbook Controversy Roils Texas

David Knowles
Writer
(Jan. 19) – "History is written by the victors," Winston Churchill famously said. In Texas, that may mean removing mention of Ted Kennedy and Cesar Chavez from textbooks in favor of new entries on the National Rifle Association and Phyllis Schlafly.

For much of the past year, the Texas State Board of Education has been considering changes to its social studies curriculum, hearing from community members and debating alterations to the way the state will teach history.

Jack Plunkett, AP

Many on the board, which is made up of 10 Republicans and five Democrats, seem to have concluded that Texas' classrooms have been infected with a liberal bias. As a result, the board has spent numerous hours hearing from members of the community on subjects such as whether labor activist Chavez and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall deserve space in history textbooks alongside founding fathers like Benjamin Franklin.

Also at issue is whether Christianity deserves more classroom time in the Lone Star State, and whether Abraham Lincoln deserves so much.

Last week, the board voted 7-6 to make some changes, so that the state standards will mandate that lessons include the causes and key organizations and individuals of the conservative resurgence of the 1980s and 1990s, including anti-feminism advocate Schlafly, the Contract with America, the Heritage Foundation, the Moral Majority and the National Rifle Association.

-snip

The final vote on the new standards will be held in May. There are 4 million children in the Texas public school system, making it the second-largest market for textbooks in the country. As a result, changes to the Texas curriculum are likely to impact other states as well.

2. Assholes. Here's a quote for them.
http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/december2005/091205pieceofpaper.htm

“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”

“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”

“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

I’ve talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”

4. Thank you both
These people are nuts. I wish I could post some of the crazy things they have talked about, and how they want to control the educational system, the local newspaper, and some of the things they say about liberals. Basically, anything or anyone that doesn't believe the same as them are silenced (as with me getting thrown off their sites)ridiculed and called names. Once you talk to them for a little bit, their hatred and racism is obvious. They won't admit racism of course.

They can be whatever they want and say what they want, but keep them the hell out of our schools and our children. I have no problem with children learning the constitution, but not their version of it. The 9/12 - 5000 year leap - Glenn Beck version.

Again, thanks.

5. In case you missed it, this has been going on since the 60's
I got out of HS in the beginning of the 70's and the quality of education had already deteriorated. Since then I have worked in and around schools. I've seen this situation for decades. It's not just the school board but also the quality of textbooks, also administrators with no teaching experience.

They try to run the schools as a business but don't understand that the profit isn't realized this quarter, it may take generations.

I follow the thinking of Thom Hartmann that you should get involved locally. The RW has been doing that for decades and it's time for us to get in the game.

Their game plan is and has been to keep us stupid, and has been working well.

6. Too late, this has been going on for decades
That's part of what's currently wrong with our education system, the fundies have made a concerted effort to get elected to school boards, an effort that has succeeded in many places. That's why we're faced with abstinence only education, intelligent design, and a host of other changes in schools and their curriculum.

This is just the latest wave of wing nuttery designed to keep the next generation dumb and complacent.

8. No, its not to late
So we just sit back and let it go on? The more people that know about this the better. Maybe some of us against these tea people will get off our ass and fight back. I'm sure not going to let these whacko's infiltrate and tell the school system what to do. These people are NUTS and they live right here in my area. Not all the tea people are this bad, but this bunch is batshit crazy.

This Tea people movement is gaining some steam, this is not the time to just say to late. We need to fight their fight with our own. I for one won't let it happen. Part of that is educating people which is all I'm trying to do here. I agree with the rest of your post though.

Sitting back and doing nothing is not the answer, but exposing these fucknuts for what they are is what needs to be done. As well as doing what they are doing and getting our own in these positions. To be honest - these people scare me, and I'm not afraid of too much. I was arguing with one of them one night and he told me if I didn't like what he had to say I could argue with his 357. I asked him if that was a threat (was going to get a screen print to prove it and send it to the DHS) but he wouldn't answer me.

Sorry for the rant but these people piss me off. I'm glad my kids are all out of school.

9. The "religious" right believes in one thing only.
Power. Power to tell others what to do, when to do, how to do it. The power to RULE, which is the basic goal of the Repuke party. And I don't mean rule of law, or by our Constitution. I mean RULE - as appointed little gods themselves. Keep the people drowning in children, ignorant, away from education and everything that means the "good life". The Repukes are aiming at a medieval society - with ONLY the very wealthy and the very poor - with ONLY the Rulers and the serfs/slaves.

That's been their goal since the establishment of PNAC and the Ronnie Raygun years.

10. They can't tell schools what to teach
Those decisions are made at the state level.

This is just proof of how ignorant they are.

Relax and laugh at them. :)

11. Check your local meetup.com groups...

The Beck-ites have a network of meetup groups that operates on a cell principle.

While it looks all bottomey-uppey, the local group leaders have their own network for receiving marching orders.
