Attn: Prius Owners in California
What would happen if I didn't replace my cataletic converter other than bad gas milage? Would I ruin my engine? I'm exempt from having to get it smogged.

1. Not a Prius owner, but generally any change that reduces exhaust back-pressure could do damage
To your exhaust valves in particular.

How and why are you exempt from smog tests?

2. Thanks for the info. I'm exempt from smog checks because it's a hybrid.
It costs $2500 in parts and labor to replace the cat converter and I don't have .25 cents.
