Does the DONOTCALL registry actually work?
I get TXT and phone messages with annoying frequency propmoting real estate deals and credit card offers. My phone is registered and I keep reporting the violations, but it appears the comapnies in question are doing this on an extensive basis and nobody's complaints seem to have an impact. Does anyone know what the process is when a complaint is filed?

1. It works for me
I don't get any telemarketing calls, and never have (6 years)

2. It works for me.
If a call gets through, I go online and report it.

It does not work for text messaging, however. You have to text back to their number with a message that reads STOP in order for them to step sending them. Or you can call your provider and have a block put on your messages from certain texters.

3. Are you filing the complaint on the donotcall website?
Years ago, when the list got started, I filed a complaint on the website and charges were pressed against the company. I received a check from the settlement of about $115. I was never informed that charges were pending or whatever, just a letter with a check came in the mail one day :-).

I'm not sure what the process is, but maybe a number of people have to file complaints against said companies before action is taken .

5. Yes...
but when I check online for the source of the call, I see that other people are getting the same messages and complaining that they've filed complaints as well.

4. I love it.
You can sign up on line. If some calls slip through, just tell them you're on the do not call list, then tell them to cease and desist or you're going to report them to the FCC. It's worked for me so far. Good luck!

6. Lately I'm getting calls in Spanish that appear to be robo calls
Since my feeble spanish retorts "no entiende" for example are ignored.... But the rapid fire conversation makes it impossible for me to figure out who is on the line or even to be sure it isn't an individual.. I just hang up... But, that's my only current annoyance.

7. You know those entries for
a car or whatever at the mall, auto shows etc. if you read the small print on the back it tells you that filling out the entry removes them from the no-call-registry. If you change carriers like I did from AT&T to Comcast it totally removes that number from the no-call-registry, you must re-register.

8. Yes, to a certain degree...
However, certain organizations do not fall under them. Your utility companies are a prime example, especially the phone company. My provider was calling me weekly to try to get me to join some other package. I finally had to tell them to stop calling me. Your bank is another one. I have a small account at Skank of America, and my Visa card was bought up by them. They have been calling me at least once daily for the past four months. This after I told them to stop calling me the last time they were bugging me. Before, they were trying to hawk crap like life insurance and home owners warranties. I asked them to leave me alone. They did--for about two months. Then, the calls started up again. I have caller ID. I just let it ring... The only reason I have not closed the account is that I cannot get another VISA card, given I have no job. I don't use it, but would like to have one for emergencies. When I finally get a job, I am getting a card with my credit union, closing that BofA account, and washing my hands of them for good. May that day come soon.

10. Scammers will ignore it since they're breaking the law anyway
If something's calling from offshore they generally aren't bound either, and I think there's even the slightest hint that you've done business with a company before they're allowed to ignore the registry too.

11. Try to answer, and then tell them to put you in their no call list.
We're on the list, but were still getting calls. Telling them to stop individually was really the only way.
