Two shot at Knoxville elementary school.
KNOXVILLE - An elementary school principal and an assistant principal were shot by a co-worker at the school on Wednesday, police said.

No students were in the building because classes had been dismissed early because of snow.

Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said the shooting at Inskip Elementary School in Knoxville happened shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Principal Elisa Luna and Assistant Principal Amy Brace were alert and conscious before they were taken to a hospital, police said. The hospital didn't immediately provide information on their conditions.

Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said the suspect was arrested after his car was stopped by a construction project roadblock. The suspect's name wasn't released because he hasn't been charged.

5. Sure hope they don't have life-threatening injuries.
I think teachers should get hazardous duty pay. Wild horses couldn't drag me into a classroom.

8. Why? Schools are safer than they have been in the past 50 years or so
School violence plummets and school violence reporting skyrockets. Go figure.

16. Well sure. Many schools now have metal detectors and full time security.
It's just a shame that it has come to that.

15. Absolutely.
"I think teachers should get hazardous duty pay."

I couldn't agree more.

4. LOTS of missing info from that story.
Who, what, when, where, and why are all supposed to be answered in a news article. I'll hold off on making a comment on the issue until more is reported.

7. Seems we have everything except the name of the suspect
and his motivation.

Unless the suspect acted in self-defense because he physically feared for his life at the moment he shot them, the "why" won't matter much in a courtroom, imo.

17. When 2 people get shot you report on it immediately
You fill in the 5 W's when the information comes in. What would you have them do, sit on it until all the facts are known?

20. The effort to "scoop" other news agencies has led to very shoddy reporting IMO.
Yes, I would have them wait until ALL the questions that are SUPPOSED to be answered until running the story. Only exception would be if the shooter were still at large and public safety was an issue.

21. There's lots missing,
but one should go to the Knoxville News site for more details. There's not a lot known at this time as to motive, except for the fact the teacher's contract was not being renewed. We don't know if he was worried about financial pressures or whether he was being harassed and targeted by the administrators.

I'll reserve commentary until I hear more about the shooter.

But at an elementary school!?! WTF!?!

12. He was a fourth grade teacher
and apparently they were not going to have him back so he opted for incarceration over unemployment.

13. Something tells me they had good reason to let him go.
Probably something to do with anger management and decision making skills, no doubt.
