AP: Birmingham abortion clinic put on probation
The Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—A Birmingham abortion clinic that was targeted in an undercover sting by anti-abortion activists has been put on probation by the state.

State health officials tell The Associated Press that the Planned Parenthood clinic has until next week to present its plan to correct violations involving minors receiving abortions.

Investigators with the department said records at the clinic showed several minors aged 13-15 had received abortions without proper verification of parental consent since November 2008.

Activists with "Live Action," a California-based anti-abortion group, posed as a pregnant 14-year-old girl who needed a secret abortion. In an audio tape from the visit, an employee allegedly suggests that someone other than a parent or legal guardian could give consent.

The group's claim last year led Alabama health officials to investigate.

We fell for the feint while they did an end-run. Any dirty trick is never dirty enough for those who would turn the clock back a few centuries.

And this is a woman helping these misogynists.

1. The dirty trick is that Planned Parenthood was advising the girl do an end run around her parents
I don't like age restriction laws, but they are the law. If Planned Parenthood gets its ass busted for this shit too many times (or even one big time) then they're going to be kicked out of the city and state, then what are women going to do.

PP needs to abide by the law, as much as they hate to, and look to change the law instead. It may be noble to help kids on the sly, but it's foolish to take oneself out of the game entirely.

3. That's like saying northern states...
...had to abide by fugitive slave laws.

Sorry but a girl's choice is either her's or it isn't.

Not mad at you, just sayin'.

8. Yeah, but the northern states couldn't be done away with
If PP is doing this sort of action and gets caught enough times their license will be yanked and all women will suffer for their stupidity.

I don't like this law, I live in a state with a very similar law. But I would hate to see PP taken out trying to fight the noble fight and leave my area with no other recourse for over a hundred mile radius. That would take away every woman's choice.

Rather I think that PP should organize and try to repeal this law, perhaps at the ballot, perhaps through the courts. Meanwhile about the most that they can do are referrals to neighboring states where there aren't such draconian laws.

9. I suppose...
...you have a point.

But, honestly, aren't you tired of having to take whatever meager scraps the bastards decide to hand us?

11. I've been tired of that for decades now
So what are you going to do? Live life as best you can, try to change the law in your favor, and abide by the laws on the books in the meantime. Either that or start a revolution. Those are your choices:shrug:

12. I thought...
...we had a revolution in 2008.

I was young and naive then.
