Glenn Beck: The craziest one at the CPAC party
The TV star wrapped up the conservative conference with a vintage tour of paranoid history and melodrama
By Mike Madden

CPACWASHINGTON -- There was really only one way the weird conservative carnival called CPAC 2010 could end Saturday night: with Glenn Beck stalking around the stage for an hour, scribbling paranoid wordplay on his trademark chalkboard, praising Calvin Coolidge and giving dramatic readings of a poem by a bona fide Socialist to stir an overflowing, anti-government crowd into a frenzy.

"This is America," Beck said. "There is no cap on success. There seems to be some sort of cap on willingness to search for success. That has to change in America. We have a different system here. We choose our own destiny. We choose. All men are created equal. All men will not end up equal."

The overarching theme of Beck's speech was that someone was out to ruin America, but by fighting the enemy the way addicts fight their problems, doom could be averted. Exactly who that someone was, though, was a little murky. It was not President Obama, the villain for most of the rest of the speakers throughout the three-day conference. "What is it that's caused us this problem?" he asked. "If you say Obama, it's too simple an answer, because it's not just Obama."

For a while it sounded like the bad guy was going to be the Republican Party, which would have been a strange twist for this bunch. "It's not enough just to not suck as much as the other side," he told the room, to general approval. "I have not heard people in the Republican Party yet admit that they have a problem. I haven't seen the 'Come to Jesus' moment in the Republican Party yet... Hello, my name is the Republican Party, and I got a problem. I'm addicted to spending and big government."

2. Crazy on purpose. He believes not half of what he says. But he knows how to draw the
conspiracy-minded teabagger types in. But he takes it all to the bank. They feed his ego and his paycheck, so why not?

5. Its been a great conference showcasing racial bigotry, homo-erotic homophobia...
violence against everyone that disagrees with them and a noteworthy sample of those that do leaving not much left but The John Birch Society and an eternally vindictive Cheney component to scoop up the pieces - all led by bubble-headed runner-up beauty pageant losers better suited as blue green algae distributors, vacuous half naked dudes that drive trucks :eyes: and mentally unstable wannabe nazi comedians aspiring to become Dennis Miller who never really was all that funny to begin with and not a one of them able to saddle and ride their own horse as is their desire - Perfect! - they want entertainment as political theater?

Then *release* the Lions!
