11. I Seem To Recall That When I Was Just Starting Out In My Career 40 Years Ago.....
that I was able to purchase health insurance through my professional association. Am I remembering that correctly that something like that was possible back then? If so - when was that taken away from us?

An association of common people - like a professional organization - would then be able to go to insurance companies and negotiate a decent premium for their members.

Isn't that something that should be re-visited?

Now I know what one problem would be. Not all people are members of some organization. So that is why a 'public option pool' where all American's would be included (there's power in numbers) is the way to go.

24. wow Obama is really good - his story of ACME car insurance was really great
And no teleprompter

Basically as a kid, he got just basic car insurance on his car. When he got in an accident, they didnt cover him because it was cheapo insurance. Thats fine because its just a car, but you cant do that with your health.

28. Clyburn:
RyanSibley:
The pharmaceutical industry has been Clyburn's largest contributor this cycle. In third place is the health professionals industry--including doctors and nurses and political action committees representing them. Much of the pharmaceutical money has come in through the less-watched back door of his leadership PAC.

Thursday February 25, 2010 12:06 RyanSibley
12:05 Paul Blumenthal: Clyburn's senior counsel, Dave Grimaldi, worked until last year as a lobbyist representing insurance companies. Former Clyburn policy counsel and health policy director for the Congressional Black Caucus AJ Jones is now a Podesta lobbyist representing Amphastar Pharmaceuticals.

57. For those that were concerned that they were only discussing cost...
The agenda called for the first section of this "summit," to be about cost.

"...The meeting will be divided into four segments:

Controlling costs – introduced by the President

Insurance reforms – introduced by Secretary Sebelius

Reducing the deficit – introduced by the Vice President

Expanding coverage – introduced by the President..."

http://firedoglake.com/

Lots of posturing and speechifying so far.

Is this what is called "running out the clock?"

Just my dos centavos
