OMG! "Kwedit" really does exist.
http://kwedit.com/

Stephen Colbert was talking about a couple of nights ago:

http://www.colbertnation.com/full-episodes/tue-march-2-2010-david-brooks

This website lets your kids buy VIRTUAL stuff for REAL money; and if they can't pay, you get an email asking you to pay for your kids for STUFF THAT DOESN'T EXIST!

1. Whaa...? "Virtual stuff for real money"? Why, that sounds like the insurance industry!
Sounds like they'll rake in the big bucks. It's all the rage these days, selling nothing for something.

2. Why yes it does!
But your kids wouldn't buy insurance.

3. Yep, and it raised $3.3 million in venture funding on the same day as the Colbert piece.
Anyway, I don't see how buying virtual stuff for real money is any different from buying a software application or an MP3 from iTunes. It's all just bits, yet people happily part with real cash for it.

At least the software does something for you.

6. Unless it's a boobies app on your iPhone.
Oh wait, I guess that does something for the user, too. ;)

8. Did you visit the site? There's no requirement that parents (or anybody else) pay.
...and you only get an e-mail if your teen requests them to send you one.

Seems silly to me, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
