Obama promises progressives he値l revisit public option after bill passes

Obama promises progressives hell revisit public option after bill passesProgressives may be denied their overriding health care priority this time around, but according to President Barack Obama, it won't be over with this bill.

Obama urged leading progressive Democrats in a closed-door meeting Thursday evening to back the health care bill, placating their concerns about the public option and warning them that the liberal agenda was at stake.

Obama told the group of House members he thought the public plan didn't have the votes this time, but reportedly assured them he'll revisit it after the bill's passage, warning that failure would imperil the issue for a generation.

................................

"To maintain a strong presidency we need to pass this bill," Grijalva summarized Obama's remarks.

The congressman noted in a statement to reporters he was "encouraged" after Obama "personally committed to pursue a public option after passage of the current bill."

1. So, is this about a "strong presidency" or a "strong public option"? Do I have to choose?

34. Whatever happened to that anyway?
I thought they were going to score HR 676, several months ago?

They should do that immediately. And then do the same with SR 1218 (Ted Kennedy's 2007 Medicare For All bill).

11. I suspect it might be easier to push for a public option
as separate from the current bill.

It provides less cover for the more craven of Democrats to vote against it--they'll have to explain why they didn't want private insurance companies to have non-profit competition.

14. If public option doesn't get put in this bill it is dead
"Government run healthcare" is the one thing that all the republicans, blue dog dems, and independents rally against. Once the public option is on its own the republicans, blue dog dems, and independents will kill it. The democrats have to force the republicans, blue dog dems, and independents to put the public option in with this bill. They have to use reconciliation.

21. PO Does. Not. Have. The. Votes. To. Pass.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Anyone saying kill the entire bill unless it has a Public Option is wrong. Sorry.

The end is the same with that way of thinking, HCR is done. And it will NEVER come back.

So take what we can get, and work for the other things that we want. Like a Public Option.

31. Demographics

What % of the American public is FOR a PO? 60% ?

Of those 60%, how many live on either coast?

The middle of America (geographically) seems to be more right wing. Less people, still the same 2 Senators per state.

Some of the Dems that vote No on this, are supporting their constituents. Hard as that is to believe.

35. Why is the term "REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT" so hard to understand?
Government is supposed to do what the majority of the people want.

The majority of people have clearly spoken on the fact that we want REAL health care reform. Preferably single payer, at least a true public option that gives everyone a true choice.

This is why Obama was elected. This is why a (supposedly) Democratic majority was elected in 2006, and increased in 2008.

Stop.Making.Excuses.For.Their.Fucking.Cowardice.

Seriously, when are you going to "revisit" the public option? If you don't have the votes now, when do you seriously think that you will ever have the votes during your presidency? Don't try to feed me that line of shit.
