If you are not a science fiction fan, or don't know the Star Trek universe, you may want to skip this. It's weird how close the writers came to our own political system, and the people who run it (bold and italics are mine, the link to the more fleshed-out rules is below).

A good exercise in spotting standard Repukism would be to put a name to the "rule". I have many of them lined up, but interestingly enough? Neither Eisenhower or Lincoln make the "cut".........

My husband was the one who said the guy I challenged (on HCR) reminded him of the Ferengi. The guy was a tall, redheaded, bearded and open-carrying individual.

I still am not sure he was human. I don't think I "won" the argument, either - he didn't, after all, pull his gun out of the holster.

I didn't know him really well. He was a friend of my dad.

And I grew up about 10 miles from his home in Cocoa Beach. Before he got famous and moved to California. During the time he and my dad worked at Cape Canaveral (which became Cape Kennedy, then back to Cape Canaveral after Kennedy Space Center was built).

So I know a little about Roddenberry.
My favorite Roddenberry quote: "We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes."

Sounds a little like Spock philosophy to me!

As far as "modelled after"? Roddenberry was about as non-bigoted as any white man I've ever known. And he didn't invent Ferengi.

Oh, yes, by the way - if the Ferengi are characterized as Jewish, so what? Many characters in many shows have been drawn on stereotypes - Catholic, black, gay, lesbian, etc. etc. etc. And lots of them are funny as hell - because they are so much stereotypes.
