PHOTOS of destruction from Long Island
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 11:55 AM by Renew Deal
The storm that passed through here on Saturday was brutal. It's easily the worst storm since Hurricane Gloria. There are lots of trees and power lines down. There's lots of damage to homes and businesses. Most of it is roof damage. I know several people without power. I don't have cable, phone, and internet. The damage isn't severe, but it is widespread. This story is severely underreported right now. Here's a link from Saturday: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7911934&mesg_id=7911934

NY Times with a photo gallery: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/15/nyregion/15storm.html?pagewanted=1&hp

Here are some pictures I took in a fairly small area in south Nassau.

Sunrise Highway in Freeport. Thank God no one was killed.

Just one tiny example of the damage businesses took. Most of these awnings were shredded.

Roof ripped off in Wantagh

1. It's a Real Mess Here in Boston
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 11:17 AM by fascisthunter
I'm home right now dealing with a flooded basement. With two pumps, I am only able to maintain a certain level in the basement. Schools are canceled in many areas, and I believe the Green Line is shut down in certain sections of Boston.

Pretty extreme weather we see, and it seems to be quite often now...

http://www.echelonrana.com/MiscStuff/viking_kittens.swf (DDay was called Operation Overlord, so that helps with and changes that statements meaning for me :) )

(And no I don't think it is about the Far Right saying they are the Tea partiers or by trying to take sayings, since there idea is to support corporate governance, which is nondemocratic.

Although I hope any difficulties or hardships don't add discomfort to anyone.

Some other interesting videos

9. That's the one good thing
The damage will put a lot of people for work. Roofers, electricians, and landscapers are looking at a good few months.

14. Depends on the policy
Also, many of the trees fell on power lines and roadways. Homeowners don't pay for either of those. Also, the area affected is mostly more prosperous than other parts of the country.

Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 12:02 PM by OmmmSweetOmmm
internet (and it was very cold with no heat) during the snowstorm, I did luck out that I had hot water and a working stove (gas). We lost a lot of trees here and during Saturday's storm, more trees came down but luckily no loss of power or real wide spread damage.

Stay safe and warm.
