WOW! House Committee Shows District-by-District IMPACT of HCR Bill
http://energycommerce.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1924:benefits-of-health-care-reform-district-by-district-impact&catid=169:legislation&Itemid=55

Just one example that is apropos:

In Rep. Kucinich’s district, the health care reform bill will:
 Improve coverage for 362,000 residents with health insurance.
 Give tax credits and other assistance to up to 163,000 families and 14,000 small businesses to help them afford coverage.
 Improve Medicare for 106,000 beneficiaries, including closing the donut hole.
 Extend coverage to 30,500 uninsured residents.
 Guarantee that 8,400 residents with pre-existing conditions can obtain coverage.
 Protect 1,600 families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs.
 Allow 38,000 young adults to obtain coverage on their parents’ insurance plans.
 Reduce the cost of uncompensated care for hospitals and other health care providers by $101 million annually.

5. It's a group of politicians speculating on potential savings from a bill that's not complete yet!

When there are real numbers, like say in 2016 when this is all up and running, then we'll see if does what it says. I guarantee you it won't.

From the DU help section:

I think a post should be removed. What should I do?

Click the "Alert" link on the post and politely explain to the moderators why you think the post should be removed. Do not post a message publicly accusing that person of breaking the rules.

24. "It's a group of politicians speculating" speculation is the heart of capitalism (insert sarcasm)

HCR thus far is proving to be little more than corporate welfare... something which I can *never* support! Add in a real (no-restrictions) PUBLIC OPTION, and I would support it... as that's the only hope of containing costs (and may eventually lead to SINGLE PAYER).

Absent such a robust public option, I say KILL IT!

7. How much of that could have been accomplished with a smaller bill
that did not have a mandate.

17. Some of it is immediate, as has been discussed here countlessly over the last
few weeks. Here is a link to some of the immediate impacts from an independent analysis:

18. That list leaves out the big stuff
"Enrich already too rich Unsurance Companies"

"Empoor even more people who won't be able to afford to use the damned Unsurance"

But I'm sure glad you're happy.

19. That's nice, but --
What does that lovely boilerplate MEAN?

In Rep. Kucinich’s district, the health care reform bill will:

 Improve coverage for 362,000 residents with health insurance.
Define "improve". That is vague as hell. Better benefits? Lower costs?

 Give tax credits and other assistance to up to 163,000 families and 14,000 small businesses to help them afford coverage.
"Tax credits" == always with the tax credits. You have to be paying taxes to get any "tax credits".

 Improve Medicare for 106,000 beneficiaries, including closing the donut hole.
Again, define "improve"

 Extend coverage to 30,500 uninsured residents.
How2? What are their costs? Is it subsidized?

 Guarantee that 8,400 residents with pre-existing conditions can obtain coverage.
How much will this coverage cost them?

 Protect 1,600 families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs.
How is this accmoplished? IF you are having trouble paying for your premiums -- even with a subsidy -- and you add in the actual cost of the healthcare you are getting, it still may cause you to file. If I racked up a 10k hospital bill I sure as heck would have no way of paying for it anytime soon and would end up filing.

 Allow 38,000 young adults to obtain coverage on their parents’ insurance plans.
That is a good thing, so long as the parents can afford it or have insurance to extend in the first place.

 Reduce the cost of uncompensated care for hospitals and other health care providers by $101 million annually.
This is a good thing.

20. isnt it
I heard its expensive insurance that will cover 60% of costs? Thats still denial of coverage, if you buy the cheapest plan because you *have to* then you cant afford the 40% the plan doesnt cover. You will still be seeing medical bankruptcies after this bill has passed. 40% of 3000.00 (say, for an mri) is still 1200, which can be a veritable fortune to a good percentage of the population. And god forbid you need 10k or 20k worth of care.

Are there any numbers on how many people will still fall through the cracks because of this problem?

21. Half of those bullet points are bullshit.
"protect 1,600" families from bankruptcy due to unaffordable health care costs"

Unless they have to access any sort of serious care, in which case the costs are STILL unaffordable.
