Rome - Italy's Roman Catholic Church said on Tuesday it would help to bring paedophile priests to justice after the country's bishops ruled that it was right to do so under Canon law.

The Italian conference of bishops stressed their concern for the victims of sexual abuse and their families as they met in Rome to address the widening scandal embroiling the Church in Europe and the United States.

"The key to searching for the truth is to enforce the procedures and penal rules of Canon law with rigour and transparency," the episcopal conference said in a statement after the talks.

Sorry, this just furthers my belief that the Catholic Church is -- institutionally -- a plague on humanity.
