When it comes up during the next appointment, let's remember half of all the Catholics to have ever
been appointed to the Supreme Court are on it right now. And two of all of the seven Jews who have ever been appointed are on it right now. It's sad but there will be screams about there being no protestants on the court if President Obama doesn't appoint one.

3. While I understand what you might be driving at
the fact remains, there is no religious test for higher office. That's not just tradition, it's a part of the Constitution.

Besides, the Repukes would love to see leading Democratic Senators on the Judiciary Committee start to flail a nominee over being Catholic. Nothing would drive Catholic voters back to them in the fall quite as fast.

4. Democratic senators aren't going flail the president's nominee

If the republicans flail a Catholic nominee, then we claim it's because she or he is Catholic and divide and conquer.
