Calif. man cries at hearing in Pelosi threats case

SAN FRANCISCO — A man accused of threatening House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in phone calls cried Thursday during a court appearance where a magistrate initially refused his request to be released to a halfway house.

Gregory Lee Giusti, 48, of San Francisco looked disheveled in a gray T-shirt and khakis as he appeared for the first time before Magistrate Judge Bernard Zimmerman.

"Some of these threats are very serious," Zimmerman said before denying Giusti's request to be released to the halfway house. He said Giusti may suffer from bipolar disorder and should be receiving treatment.

The magistrate, however, told the U.S. attorney's office to interview Giusti further to determine if he was mentally competent enough to be released to a halfway house or if he should continue to be detained

Yeah big tough Conservative... Look I know that there are nutcases out there and it only takes one to do something really bad. But really, I would bet that this guy is more the norm than the militia that just got busted.

1. He's certainly not the first bully to burst into tears when confronted
and he won't be the last. If he is bipolar, then he needs constant monitoring to take his drugs. With mania comes grandiosity and with grandiosity comes paranoia.

My bipolar relatives tend to wig out about the CIA, but they're a bit too intelligent to buy any of the crap on Pox News. Dumb bipolars who won't take their drugs will naturally wig out about anybody Pox tells them it's OK to hate.

10. you said it all with this:
"He's certainly not the first bully to burst into tears when confronted..."

my dad was a cop and used to tell me all the time about how the hardest motherfuckers would break down in tears once they're in court.

if he real mental issues, fine, i hope he receives treatment, but damn i hope the other fucknuts learn something from this.

2. The militia that just got busted is more of the same.
They talked a good game. Loved to play with their widdle guns. But when the cops showed up, they folded like a cheap suit and gave up without a fight.

4. no, these are the nutcases who indicate the level of rage that has been promulgated
mssrs. guisti & wilson are likely harmless, but, to use Hannity's phrase, there are undoubtedly McVeigh-wannabees amongst the currently fearful & enraged.

it's those people, the sociopaths, who pose the threat, and there's no way to sort these sad cases from the dangerous ones without investigation.

6. These are the advance scouts and outliers
The ones who can be pushed and manipulated most easily, who act rashly without a coherent plan. The calmer, more methodical ones are still planning and plotting, watching to see what happens to the goof squad irregulars. If nitwits like Giusti are handled with kid gloves and the perception is the penalties aren't going to be very harsh, those waiting in the wings will be encouraged to act as well.

but the Tim McVeighs and Scott Roeders are keeping an eye on how he's dealt with.

19. I'm not sure they are all that interested
or reliant in their views and plans on the legal outcomes or consequences of threats.
Yes, sure, they are watching, but I doubt it alters anything in their thinking.

17. Those who've already snapped may not be aware of their status as "scout"
But those who are poised to follow, are watching what's happening very closely. If the early responders (you should pardon the expression) get off with a slap on the wrist, it will encourage those who come after to think that the threats aren't being taken very seriously. And I'm pretty sure there will be more right-wing terrorists to come, individuals who plan bigger and better, instead of going off half-cocked like these first dimbulbs.

There's going to be a sentiment that says the ones who've snapped so far are just misguided individuals, not very stable, who got hyped up by the controversy. There is some truth to that, but it's not the whole truth. The ones egging on this violence are, I am persuaded, convinced that this would happen, and they're counting on leniency for the scouts to set the stage for the more thoughtful terrorists to come.

11. This is what I've been saying about them all along.
They try to intimidate US, because everything THEY are about is motivated by their fear. So they figure we're all the same kind of cowards that they are.

And make no mistake, they are gutless, cowardly pieces of shit.

24. You don't really worry about the ones who make threatening phone calls
or post threatening blog posts...

or send threatening emails...

or send threatening snail mail letters.

Nope, you've got to worry about the assholes who believe the same shit as that fuckwit, but don't tell anybody anything while they quietly make their devious plans.
