Rocket attack in Green Zone kills 4 Filipino contractors working for the U.S. government

(AP) - BAGHDAD-Four Filipino contractors working for the U.S. government were killed in a rocket attack on the heavily fortified Green Zone, the American Embassy said Thursday.

The attack occurred on Wednesday, said the embassy, adding that it was making the announcement "with a profound sense of sadness and regret."

It was the third straight day that the U.S.-controlled area in central Baghdad was hit by rockets or mortars, heightening concerns about security in the area that is home to the U.S. and British embassies and thousands of American troops.

Insurgents and militia fighters routinely fire rockets and mortars into the sprawling complex on the west bank of the Tigris River, but the attacks seldom cause casualties or damage because they are poorly aimed and the zone contains much open space.

1. The last bastion of security, The Green Zone, is vulnerable to attack...
At some point the obvious truth is going to be pointed out --a stationary Green Zone is vulnerable to attack from those willing to take the risk.

There are reports of multiple assaults daily using powerful mortar shells. There are anecdotal accounts of people inside the Green Zone being injured and killed. However you almost never hear about these in the MSM reports.

Killings 'inside the Green Zone' sure seem to be underreported.

BTW this is occurring AFTER we surged troops to Baghdad.

2. when are we going to call them "mercenaries"?
I'm saddened by their death's because of Bush's Folly... but, when most people think of a contractor, they think that it is somebody who fixed your roof, or builds an addition onto your house. Most of these guys in Iraq are mercenaries.

3. under what amount of attack does a green zone become a red zone?
Seems to me this isn't much of a Green Zone if people are dying from outside influence.

How the heck are we going to control the violence in ALL of Iraq if we can't even keep our green zones controlled?!?!?

4. Anyone have a link to this anecdotal story I read about....
One of the soldiers stationed in the Green Zone was relating that he and another soldier were walking outside from one building to another, fairly close to together, and the other soldier was struck bodily with a mortar shell. I recall him stating that the body virtually disappeared.

I did not save a link. I remember thinking that this kind of attack and death inside the Green Zone would surely get MSM play, but I did not see it mentioned anywhere by a MSM outlet.

Anyone out there see this? Have a link?
