I'm sure they shed big ol' crocodile tears every time someone ELSE heroically sacrifices his life in Iraq or Afghanistan to get even with Sadaam Hussein for causing 9/11. Red-blooded American heroism like that they can appreciate. Something as quotidian as paying the humble expenses necessary to maintain a functioning society -- beyond their understanding.
