The military DADT survey will not go out to all military households
While he said that the plan was to "go out" & talk to the "forces" (though I have my doubts they will ask every single military member), General Carter F. Ham said that the survey will only go out to a "representative sample" of military families.

Ham said it during a 30 second infomercial airing on AFN.

I've been looking forward to getting the survey and now it seems I may not. Hopefully, my husband will get a survey.

Posted for those keeping up with the DADT survey.

1. It should not go out to any households

If military families are uncomfortable serving with gays then that is their own problem, we can not continue to hold up equal rights just so we can find out how many bigots object to equality. We don't need a survey we need equal rights.

6. I agree that it shouldn't be a question of how other people feel about someone else's civil rights
But this is the route the government is taking, as weak and cowardly as that route is

3. Senior noncoms and O-4s and above.
The two groups more likely to thumbs down repeal.

10. It pissed me off when I heard it. The government floated this excuse for delaying
a direct and to the point repeal of discrimination and now there's a chance some voices for equal rights won't be heard.

7. Wait. Now we're SURVEYING straight households to figure out if gays should be allowed to serve
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 05:15 PM by Smashcut
openly?

So what? If 61% of the households are against repeal, and only 39% are for it, they'll count that as a point against repeal?

What kind of cowardly bullshit approach is this?

8. Yep..that's what they are doing. I agree..it's cowardly.
And now it seems they won't be asking all of them. I'm for a repeal...and if I don't get a survey, that's one less voice for civil rights.

11. So they're going to poll a small group of people on whether or not
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 05:46 PM by ScreamingMeemie
they are homophobes and make a decision on whether or not to continue denying equal rights to all soldiers? Nice.

12. and the report isn't due until December which means 2011, if then,
before any action on it.

Government has legalized discrimination (which is all DADT is) and then continually tells people to wait for their rights.
