Presente.org has a pledge up to boycott spending money in AZ
until SB 1070 is repealed, fyi.

Arizona’s governor just signed SB 1070 into law, effectively making it legal to racially profile in the state. The bill requires local law enforcement to question anyone they have “reasonable suspicion” of being undocumented. Translation: you could be pulled over for no other reason than that you are brown-skinned or speak Spanish.

That Gov. Jan Brewer could sign such a discriminatory law — one of the worst in the nation — is a moral outrage. We need to send a clear message that Arizona does not deserve economic support from the rest of the country. Tourism is a huge industry in the state — bringing in $18 billion last year. With the passage of SB 1070, it’s time to say shame on Arizona and pledge not spend our dollars in a place where racial profiling is legal. Will you join us?

1. Done.
Have the police Brewer and the entire Rethuglican delegation arrested and placed in prison. Have them taste what it's like to discriminate against other people.

They own it, they can sleep on it.

5. Snowbirds are gone which is where all the majority of revenue comes from.
What exactly do y'all buy that is from Arizona and how often do you actually travel to our state?

The only people who come here in the summer are people visiting family or those looking for spa deals. The majority of people who are sane don't come here in the summer and snowbirds don't start coming through till mid October. Hopefully this new law will be repealed by then.

6. People go to Arizona for all kinds of things, not only snow.
Art, baseball, golf, spas. And as someone else pointed out, there are corps based there like Petsmart -- which we buy all our stuff for the animals here on the ranch.

7. I work for a Fortune 500 company here in the state. I have to shop here since it's where I live.
We're going to do our best to protest this law and have it repealed.

8. I'm sorry AZ is going through this.
I love the place myself. So many parts of it are so beautiful, I can see why there are so many art colonies there.

10. Many here are ready to fight this new law and can't wait to yell from the rooftops.
We're not just going to roll over or move. If this can happen here it can happen elsewhere.

14. Let me see
US Airways is based on the state

And so are these other companies

Petsmart
University of Phoenix
Best Western...

I am proof positive those are the top of the list.

I will go out of my way NOT to buy any services from them and chiefly let them know why.

You are based in AZ... as in corporate Headquarters... forget my money.

Oh and I am sure it will be ahem thrown out on a slew of Federal Legislation, including the Fourth Amendment, but it is time for you and your fellow democrats to take this onto your own hands and vote these idiots out, and repeal these laws.

In that you have my support.

15. Unfortunately many don't vote in elections that aren't for president.
I vote every time I get the chance and wish others did the same.

16. Well there you have it
I cannot vote them out. FORTUNATELY I don't live in Az, or I'd have to start carrying papers...

And sadly I am not kidding here. Either that, or risk deportation and then a lawsuit.

24. You should consider Vegas. Real estate there is pennies on the dollar.
We're considering moving to Vegas in the next year since we haven't been happy in Arizona since coming here.

9. Done.
That was very easy - it took seconds to sign up and there's a box on the page where you can write a comment if you want to elaborate why this law sucks so bad.
Thanks for posting this. I really hope that a sizable group of people will withhold their vacation/tourist dollars - enough to make it painful to AZ's economy.

I wrote that I would be spending my vacation dollars in New Mexico where I and my family can move about freely without having to worry about producing documents for the authorities.
