Unemployed office workers find work as exotic dancers
Unemployed office workers find work as exotic dancers

DETROIT (NBC) -- It's a brutal economy, but one industry is hiring and paying well, flooded with applications from young mothers and women who have been downsized out of office jobs: exotic dancing.

They are women who live in your neighborhood, woman you may have worked with at your office, working moms who had good careers.

Now out of desperation, they have become strippers to pay the .

One Detroit dancer says she lost her job at a local university.

"They did some layoffs like everyone else and I was one of the unfortunate people that got let go," she explains.

As a young mother, dancing for money was the last thing on her mind, but she was repeatedly turned down for other jobs, mainly because she was overqualified.

Out of work and with bills mounting she did something she never thought possible: applied to be a dancer at a strip club.

She got the job, and its more than paying the bills.

At $1,000-1,500 dollars a week she will clear $60,000 this year.

--------------

"Middle class, professional business women, housewives, women who have lost their jobs or been laid off and can not find work. They're coming in to us saying 'I need a job'," says Catsman Enterprises Manager Nancy Vasko.

2. Hey, prostitution will always be popular I guess. What a shame that the
economy is so bad, women have to become prostitutes though. It's been that way in Mexico for quite awhile in the border towns, I've heard.

3. Dancing is not prostitution.
And there have been many women who've put themselves through college this way.

4. I wonder if there is an audience for a 1 breasted 52 year old woman.
I thinking not. Ah well, I could always knock out my teeth and specialize in blow jobs.

8. There isn't when you are 57 either !
Not that I have looked.

I haven't been to a strip club by lack of interest (very hetero) since I was in my teens (and I am 57) and the only times were in Nashville and New Orleans when I was 19 with one earlier exception.

Back in the late 60's my high school in the East Bay had a Saturday North Beach theme field trip to SF's North Beach. How times have changed!

We went to City Lights Books, Anton Levay's Satan shop, Enrico's, Cafe Trieste (for opera), whatever the church is on the square, Coit Tower, and the Old Spaghetti factory for dinner. We also went in the afternoon for a special performance of Carol Doda at the Condor Club just for us students, She rode down a grand piano and had huge silicon breasts and talked to us kids once she did her show and was funny and nice and made us all laugh.

I know some woman get off on it and some can be coldly professional about the work but the situation is not good when there is no other ready opportunity.

6. To the delight of the wall street thieves. Sorry, I am bitter - they have the money and more
opportunities to spend their money on exotica.

7. Pole dancing pays a hell of a lot better
than being chained to a desk with all the shit you can eat in an office.

I never had the bod for it, but I sure understand the attraction for young women who do.

Good for them.
