Obama administration spending billions on new global strike weapons
The Obama administration is spending billions of dollars to develop new weapons systems, including powerful conventional warhead missiles capable of striking any target in the world within less than an hour.

The US Air Force carried out two separate test launches April 22—one at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and the other at Cape Canaveral, Florida—designed to further the development of these weapons systems. The first system, known as Conventional Prompt Global Strike, or CPGS, would be capable of striking anywhere across the globe within under an hour of a launch order, using intercontinental ballistic missiles fired from the US to deliver conventional warheads against targets in other countries.

The Obama administration has requested $240 million in appropriations by Congress to pay for developing CPGS in 2011, an increase of 45 percent over this year’s budget. The total cost of the program is expected to mount to over $2 billion by 2015, by which time the Pentagon hopes to have deployed the first elements of the weapons system...

The other unmanned space vehicle launched Thursday from Cape Canaveral was the X-37B. The Pentagon remained tight-lipped about the highly classified program, refusing to say even when the 29-foot plane—which resembles a smaller version of the space shuttle—would return to earth, much less specify what it was carrying or give any detailed explanation of its mission. While it is estimated that the cost of developing the X-37B will run into the billions, the precise amount also remains classified, included as part of the Pentagon’s “black” budget...

1. Speaking of military and space.
I saw an idea, where they would gather energy from solar panels, then beam that huge energy stream down to a power station.

If that idea is true, and can be done, then it is equally presumable that the military could develop a Golden Eye like system.

Maybe laser, but why not low frequency sound, or Electro magnetic, or even other froms of light like radiation.

The point being the tech for some terrible spaced based weapons have been around for awhile.

There is even one music video about it, but I think that is mostly fear inspired or to give a preception of power.

No Handlebars

It is a really sick video about how power can corrupt people.

11. It was my understanding that this concept would make use of microwaves
as the conduit between space collectors and terrestrial power stations.

5. I thought Reagen was dead?
I wonder how fast peace would break out if the United States was wiped off the face of the earth? Do we even contribute anything of use anymore? :sarcasm:

It was the European's politely begging the President to do the right thing there and not spark off global thermonuclear war.

14. I hope China refuses to fund this
Given that the U.S is broke and in debt, I hope the paymasters in China get active soon and start telling the U.S to stop wasting good Chinese money on unnecessary weaponry.

15. It could be in Bejing in under one hour
WASHINGTON — In coming years, President Obama will decide whether to deploy a new class of weapons capable of reaching any corner of the earth from the United States in under an hour and with such accuracy and force that they would greatly diminish America’s reliance on its nuclear arsenal.

There isn't enogh money anyway

From our side, we think the same as Zhu Min, the Deputy Governor of the Chinese Central Bank, that « the world hasn’t enough money to buy any more US Treasury bonds (20) ».
