(Why would anyone go overseas for weed or paraphernalia?)
The other day, as I do most days, I found myself talking to Carlo over at Ziggy’s, a friend of CVC. As we spoke, the counter between us festooned with every kind of smoking mechanism one could imagine, the topic of American made paraphernalia verses foreign made paraphernalia cam up. Carlo had been showing me an American made hash press and we had compared it to a hash press from overseas.
There was really no comparison. On the American press the threads were as smooth as butter and the 100% stainless steel press had a weight to it. There was simply a real significance to the American press, in it you could feel the workmanship of the American soul. It was a tool, not a toy, and treated properly it would stand the test of time, perhaps living to be passed down to the next generation.
In my other hand I held the foreign made press and I felt none of the same soul. It was light in comparison, made from aluminum that had once undoubtedly lived a life of dubious usefulness as soda or soup cans. Though the threads were a bit bulky and a bit hard to align, it was functional. It would do the job, complete the task, so to say. Sadly, that was all it would do. There was no love it, no dedicated American hands in its craftsmanship.
The press made overseas was priced at forty dollars.
The American made press had a price tag of one hundred dollars.
“I like American made stuff,” Carlo was explaining to me, “It’s better made, you can feel it, but my question is, why does it have to be so much more expensive?”
