When they call a Dem policy 'socialist', stop them in their tracks and correct them with this word..
DEMOCRACY.

Example..

Cons like Rush and Beck like to call a Public Option(or any reform of HC) "Socialist".
They're wrong(big suprise).
It isn't socialism..

It's DEMOCRACY in action. Democracy is intended to represent the will of the people. The will of the electorate.

Regulation isn't socialism.

It's DEMOCRACY in action.

Oversight isn't socialism.

It's DEMOCRACY in action.

An economic stimulus plan isn't socialism.

It's DEMOCRACY in action.

Democracy is supposed to be the will of the electorate. Resulting policy-making may not seem like the will of the people at many times(people wanted a PO and got more for-profit HCR instead), but in theory our democracy is the will of the people.

.................................................................................

Democracy has become the enemy of the Right Wing. Authoritarians hate loss of control at the ballot box err Diebold evote machine, perhaps more so than anything else. The Teabag movement, even if it seems to be fizzling out, is built upon the obsessive compulsion to be in charge.

Do as I say, not as I do. Authoritarianism.

Rush, Beck, Bachmann, Fox hate democracy, clearly. Why? Because for the 5 minutes it takes to fill out a ballot, we're all equal. Rush hates considering himself equal to you and I, even for 5 minutes.

Rush, GB, FOX are turning their unabashed hatred toward democracy. They hate our right to vote. They would give anything to keep you and I, the Democratic voter, away from the polls.

But they can't. And it eats away at them. I think it explains Rush's recent weight loss. He's hating himself thinner.(OK enough hyperbole)

Straight out of the right wings playbook, the Reich Wing is resorting to character assassination yet again. This time their victim is our democracy.

The speakers of hate- Rush, GB etc are trying to paint our democracy/our right to vote as something evil by calling every elected Dem policy 'socialist'. Again, Democratic Party policies are not socialism, they are democracy in action. (Reminder-Resulting policies aren't always the will of the people, but pols enacting said policies were elected by the will of the people).

Elected Dems are not Socialists. I'm a Socialist and faaaar left of the Dem Party.

Again, elected Dems are not Socialists, they are DEMOCRACY in action.

They are the result of elections. Elections are DEMOCRACY in action.

The next time you hear a right wingnut cry "IT'S SOCIALISM!1!!1" , stop them and correct them.

Tell them, "No it isn't socialism, it's democracy in action.".

..........................................................................

Think about every time Beck has said something that made you angry. Beck all but calling for violent revolution against America or everything Obama does is steeped in Marxism. Beck loves to piss off the left.

Want to piss off the right wing? Wanna get under their skin? Racist/offensive Teabag signs got you down?

Peacefully extract revenge. We can all do somethin' about it.

There is one simple thing we can all do to tell Rush where he can stick his Nazi propaganda.(Nazi propaganda would probably soothe his cyst.)

That simple act that we can all do?
(Hint: Think DEMOCRACY in action)

Scorn Rush, GB, Bachmann and Palin, Fox, TB'ers, with this one simple act..

2. Democracy is a political system, socialism is an economic system
They are not one and the same or even interchangeable.

Rush Limbaugh and his stupid ilk are wrong, but you're not correct either.

22. But they're not mutually exclusive, either.
It is conceivable that "the people" would vote in politicians that would erect a socialistic system. Simply saying "it's democracy" doesn't invalidate the charge. A better response might be, "Call it what you like, it was arrived at through the democratic process. So SUCK IT!" Of course, be prepared for the inevitable debate on the tyranny of the majority.

If you actually do shut someone down with a flippant response then you need to pick a better debater.

I'm just sayin'.

31. Your OP made a lot of points, but not all of them are accurate
And you'll forgive me, I hope, if I misquote you, because I don't have the OP in front of me.

For example, regulation CAN be an element of socialism. In fact, socialism has lots of regulations. Regulation can also be communism or capitalism or corporatism. Whether it's part of democracy is debatable.

An elected Democrat CAN be a socialist, or even a Socialist, although membership in a formal political party really has almost nothing to do with economics. Republicans who demand tax funds for pet projects are engaging in socialism.

And if someone engages you in a debate over whether or not the U.S. is a democracy, a representative democracy, or a republic, you'd better have some answers for that, too.

4. California's gay marriage ban and Arizona's immigration law are supported by the majority of voters.
Is that Democracy too? Or is it Democracy only when the majority agrees with us?

11. As a gay man, I first point to the gaping hole in our US constitution. It fails to protect human..
rights. Bigotry enabled through the constitution.

Those who wrote it proudly proclaimed it to be document that protected man's liberty.

As they looked over their shoulder at slaves serving whitey.

I'm a white guy who doesn't fall under the protection of the constitution. Because I'm gay.

To tell you the truth, I'm no longer a fan of a document that enables discrimination.

13. Sorry, but you are WAY off base
It is the resulting policy making that people decry as socialist, not the manner in which people who support it were put in power.
Government run Universal Healthcare isn't any less socialist just because it is the will of the people.

14. I disagree. Beck, Rush, Fox had already painted Obama as a Mao loving "Socialist" even before..
he took office in Jan '09. They've painted him as a "Socialist" from even before day 1.

They don't just accuse resulting Dem policy as socialist. Right wing talking heads also paint Dems themselves as socialists, including Obama.

15. But
was he "painted as a socialist" because of HOW he was elected, or because of what they believe his POLICY to be?

Socialist policy brought about by Democracy is still socialism, so you cannot "correct" them in the way you describe.

17. Obama's certainly not governing as 'socialist' as he campaigned for
In fact, he's waffled and dragged his feet on some of the most contentious issues such as DADT and the public option.

And yet, he was voted in with a CLEAR majority.

THAT'S the TRUE "will of the people".

27. Whats wrong with socialist
Edited on Fri May-07-10 03:15 PM by MkapX
I don't mind if they call us socialist. I like the word. In fact i and i think a lot of people in my generation (those under age 25) don't understand why older americans are so afraid of the word. Socialist countries have free healthcare, free education (in fact their students GET PAID to go to school) and their armies don't invade countries that had nothing to do with 9/11. And their citizens are ranked at some of the most happiest in the world. If that is wrong i don't want to know what is right.

Unsuccessful economy? Nope...japan has one of the most prosperous economies and they are a generous nanny state.

Now compare that to the USA in which it cost 2352452 dollars to get stitches, you have to pay 100,000 dollars in loans at a 4% interest after graduating from college, and were off on a crusade to fight evil doers, pissing off every country in the world in the process
