Homeboy Industries lays off most of its employees as financial woes worsen
Homeboy Industries, the L.A. institution devoted to providing jobs and counseling to former gang members, laid off most of its employees Thursday amid worsening financial problems.
Father Gregory Boyle, who started Homeboy Industries more than two decades ago, said 300 people were laid off, including all senior administrators. Boyle said he’s stopped taking a paycheck as well.
“We cobbled together payroll in November,” he said. “But it was not enough to save us or rescue us.”

It has been an effective organization for years that takes a different approach to stopping violence. It should have been funded and copied everywhere well before now.
Spend one of those billions going to the oil companies in subsidies or to the DoD.
