Correa to Attend Premiere of Oliver Stone Film
Source: Prensa Latina

Quito, May 28 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa will attend the premiere of the documentary South of the Border with its director, US filmmaker Oliver Stone.

The screening of the documentary, premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2009, will take place simultaneously in Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca. Entrance in the cities of Guayaquil and Cuenca is free to the public.

Stone is supposed to arrive in this capital on Sunday afternoon and he will give a press conference at 15:30 at a hotel. Lula Da Silva (Brazil), Evo Morales (Bolivia), Cristina Fernandez (Argentina), Fernando Lugo (Paraguay) and Raul Castro (Cuba) also offer statements to Stone.

The documentary, narrated from the filmmaker's perspective, begins its journey taking into account what the American press has tried to show about Chavez, calling him a negative influence for the Americas and even as a threat.

The president of Venezuela is today the most representative of what happens in Latin America. "If he is successful, it would be the first time in Latin America, that someone moves the entire region away from US economic control," says the filmmaker in the documentary.

33. Thank you for linking the trailer, Andronex, and thanks, so much, for reminding us
of this new Oliver Stone film.

It would be a great disappointment to have missed it, no doubt about it.

You've given us something else to anticipate with interest.

Recommending.

7. Chavez is not exactly the brightest bulb on the tree
In just a few years, he took one of the most successful South American economies and placed it squarely in the toilet, in spite of enormous petro-dollars. Inflation in Venezuela is nearly the highest IN THE WORLD.....I believe that it is 2nd highest. However, he has given a lot of money to other South American countries to push his socialist "revolution". So, he receives a lot of support in the region. Unfortunately, it is because those countries (Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, and more) are following his lead.....and are mostly in the same economic trouble.

If SOME DUers would care more about people and less about "the cause", we would hope for his immediate removal.

32. Choosing their president themselves is strictly the concern of the VENEZUELAN PEOPLE.
What you want for Venezuela is strictly at odds with what they want and NEED for their own country, their OWN lives.

You need to rethink your values, and spend some time struggling to grasp the meaning of democracy, your being a "Democrat," and all.

9. South of the border independence
If there is one redeeming thing about the US invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and the launching of war in Pakistan it's that the US does not have the military troops to invade and occupy South America. Several South American nations have been able to loose the chains of US imperialism and take control of their own destiny and that does not sit well here. As long as our military is tied down in the Middle East the South American nations are safe and it will be up to the media to demonize and villify.

11. Nice hyperbole.....
So, when was that last invasion and occupation of South America?? I don't mean more hyperbole of "invasion" or "occupation"......kind of like "imperialism". Give me a precise example.....not your perception of the facts. The U.S. has never invaded a S. American country or controlled its government. They may have some past grievances due to our interference, but that is VERY different from INVASION or OCCUPATION.

How about more fact and logic and less silliness.

But was reading this morning the Amnesty report on Colombia and noticed, the DAS, the clandestine service that Bush and Uribe used to try to smear Correa and Chavez with (by way of claiming they supported FARC) was disbanded for corruption after it was found that they wiretapped the judiciary and well, everybody, for years.

So, DAS is DOA and Chavez and Correa are thriving.

Stone reveals Chavez admiration
Saturday, 29 May 2010

American filmmaker Oliver Stone has said he deeply admires Hugo Chavez but the Venezuelan president might consider talking a bit less on television.

Promoting his new documentary South of the Border in Caracas, Stone heaped praise on Chavez, saying he is leading a movement for "social transformation" in Latin American.

The film features informal interviews by Stone with Chavez and six allied leftist presidents, from Bolivia's Evo Morales to Cuba's Raul Castro.
