I Wonder What They'll Say About Us... How We Took Care Of Each Other... And The Planet...
Milky Way Over Ancient Ghost Panel

Long before Stonehenge was built, well before the Dead Sea Scrolls were written, ancient artists painted life-sized figures on canyon walls in Utah, USA -- but why? Nobody is sure. The entire panel of figures, which dates back about 7,000 years, is called the Great Gallery and was found on the walls of Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park. The humans who painted them likely hunted Mammoths. The unusual fuzziness of largest figure led to this mural section's informal designation as the Holy Ghost Panel, although the intended attribution and societal importance of the figure are really unknown. The above image was taken during a clear night in March. The oldest objects in the above image are not the pictographs, however, but the stars of our Milky Way Galaxy far in the background, some of which are billions of years old.

2. Oh, how breathtaking! I'm sickened by what we've done to our beautiful planet.
Seeing area photos with big brown patches in the middle of lush green where we've chopped down the trees. The garbage and toxins in our waters.

At least we're leaving the Milky Way unscathed. So far.

18. Four and a half billion years in the making and just think what man has
done to his planet in just a couple hundred years or so.

4. Wow, that's really beautiful! Thank you for posting this.
A bit of awe feels very good right now, with the world as fucked up as it is. There's something very powerful about those figures -- and the juxtaposition with the Milky Way is absolutely perfect.

Thank you again,
sw

with a mixture of both wonder and sadness...

It's one hell of a juxtaposition.

11. Once, humanity understood that we are part of the whole web of life.
To our great peril, we in the so-called "civilized" world, have lost that understanding.

Your OP brings a most poignant reminder.

12. I can't even imagine a sky with that many stars in it!
I'm north west of Denver & the entire south east sky is starless.

I wonder, is the sky this full of stars in the middle of the ocean?

7. They'll say that in the midst of greed, anger, and war...
Not to mention pollution and fear and cynicism...

That once in a while we were good to each other, that now and then someone loved someone, and it was so good...

That once in a while we managed to remember the lesson the Good Samaritan taught us...

That once in a while we put aside our lust for material goods and money and position and power to be considerate of how we walked on this earth, our only home...

That there were a few shining moments where we could lift up our heads and know we could be better than we'd had any idea we could be...

But those moments were nearly overcome with our blood lust and need for revenge and our need for sustenance at the expense of our earth, our home...
