Right-wing YouTube provocateur James O'Keefe has a follow-up to his pimp-costumed ACORN opus: He got a job as a Census taker and purposefully filled out his timecard incorrectly. He gets to go on
Good Morning America for this?
O'Keefe is making the rounds on cable television for his latest thrilling expose, in which he tears back the curtain on the shadowy underworld of Census workers who say they worked four hours more than they actually did.
With a hidden camera, I caught four Census supervisors encouraging enumerators to falsify information on their time sheets. Over the course of two days of training, I was paid for four hours of work I never did.The horror. Wait until he hears how my federally-employed mailman sometimes cuts across the lawn instead of walking straight along the sidewalk.
This video is a grave disappointment. Though asinine, O'Keefe's previous projects at least entertained us with
funny pimp outfits, Gordon Gekko costumes, and federal crimes. This time around, he's as scintillating as a teenager filling out the paperwork for her after-school job at the mall food court. Are we supposed to believe he and Breitbart are so naive that lying on a timecard actually shocks them? Or that George Stephanopoulos interviewing O'Keefe on
Good Morning America constitutes a "
profile in media courage," according to ideological O'Keefe sugar daddy Andrew Breitbart?
I don't even care about this guy's politics or shaky understanding of journalistic ethics anymore. I care that James O'Keefe is being rewarded with fame for filling out a timecard wrong. This is not sufficient reason for fame! Do you have any idea how many timecards Michaela Salahi had to fill out wrong before she made it big? This is America. We expect better from our fameballs.
