17. The circular diamond saw was only for the four peripheral pipes and some hoses earlier.
The big shear was always going to do the big cut on the 22" riser.

Then, finally, the diamond wire saw, which I think is already sitting on the BOP!

44. A little of both, I'd say.
I noticed earlier that the shear seemed to be drifting out of alignment with the riser.

I expect that they'll go slow, and I wonder how clean the end will be and if it will be sufficiently pinched flat to not spew as much as it might if it was a messier end.

Hmmmmmm.

I was on the phone trying to change to DSL but AT& T, the only ones who come out here, said they can't provide me with it even though my neighbor across the road has it. I tried a WiFi company and their service, the only one in my area, only reaches certain places. They don't think their service will reach my house but are going to come out look. The joys of living in the boonies. I guess I'm still stuck with satellite.

They do have a business package that's more expensive than mine and I think it has more bandwidth and a higher threshold. However, If I could get cable I would switch in a heartbeat and I know a lot of rural places have cable.

65. I tried talking to their customer service, but those people have no authority.
I'm writing a letter to let them know that if they don't change this threshold rule to how much bandwidth you use a month instead of a day, I'm looking for another provider. If it were per month, it would be okay because it's seldom I exceed my threshold in a week, so it really sucks.

Two other points further downstream on the collapsed riser, and maybe less pressure at the leaks at the kink above the BOP.

Not sure what all details need to be covered before this actually begins, but I think I spotted the cutter already in place on the BOP.

I hope they can begin that cut soon, different camera view will show that.

83. VERY, very slow is the key to this cut. If they go too fast, the wire will
begin to drift and the cut will be nearly ruined. They would then have to re-position the saw and try to get another clean cut going - but LOWER than the first. They can't afford any mistakes here.

at the kink. The reason is that the oil still has to get past the kink, which is getting pressure from the bottom.

What's next? Well, they'll take away (or drop) the section they just cut loose. Then, they'll either begin or finish the cut just below the kink. But before they do that they will move and have the cap hanging very close by. Once the riser is cut away, they'll immediately attempt to place the cap on top of the BOP.

I've got my fingers crossed and all my mental good vibrations aimed directly at the operation.

73. Right now we're all just tyring to move along the operation with our
best wishes and good vibrations for the ROV operators and with them getting this thing under some sort of control until the relief wells are in place. But, alas, you are right about the circumstances. I have to find a reason to laugh in order to keep from bawling like a baby.

I'll be glued to my screen all day tomorrow (and tonight!)

It's been amazing even to me - the least tech savvy person I know!

90. Remind me -- if one of the LMRPs is successful, does it divert
the remaining oil spilling out? And if so, are they able to retrieve it and get it outta there?

96. Yes, they will collect it at the surface. Some leakage may occur, however.
There's been talk about plumes away from the BOP not associated with the collapsed riser.

And some leakage between the LMRP and the point of contact with the top end of the BOP might occur.

Otherwise, IIRC, all or most of what has presently been leaking will now be collected.

Yay!

91. Link to the Manufacturer of the Diamond Wire Saw (for any real geeks out there)
I'm not sure if they're employing a 30", a 50", or a 58" or a larger unit:

the word CUT on the side.

And then cut out away from the saw.
