The administration divorced BP yesterday, going public with the criminal investigation earlier than planned. Earlier, Justice had planned to hold its fire until the well was capped. Jan Crawford, to Katie Couric on the “CBS Evening News”: “Some senators already have accused BP of making false statements to win approval for that rig and, if true, that could expose the company and possibly some of its executives to criminal charges for false statements, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy. And that would mean not only money but prison time.”
