Drunk Driver kills 5 immigrants and shatters American dream
snip:

After her husband became a U.S. citizen a few weeks ago, Anabel Sevilla-Miranda came to Las Vegas from Mexico so they could pursue a better life together.

He had left her south of the border a few years ago to come work in the United States and had settled into a job at the Rampart Casino at the Resort in Summerlin. They had other relatives who were living in the valley and in California, and that extended family -- in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews -- was finally getting to spend time with her and the couple's two young children.

Those budding hopes and bright prospects were crushed Saturday night when the children, their 35-year-old mother and five other family members were in a fiery traffic crash in the northwest valley.

"My brother came here trying to accomplish the American dream, and this happens," said Juan Luis Miranda, Sevilla-Miranda's brother-in-law, who rushed to Nevada from San Diego when he got the news.

Now if you take the time and read this short article, read what the supporters of the drunk driver say:mad:
I guess the drunk drivers friends don't think he deserves the punishment? Why cause these children he killed are Mexican? Maybe a reckless assumption on my part but damn what indifference to the suffering family.

1. I can't wait....
....to see Bill O'Reilly's feigned outrage! Surely this tragedy transcends spin, right?

3. This one got me.
"I can't even watch the news without bitching at the cops through the tv. We all know that this shouldn't have happened to Ron," wrote another.

What an asshole this poster is.

No doubt a Republican to boot.

The issue here is the friend who was drunk, ran a stop sign while speeding, and slammed into another vehicle that had the right of way.

This shouldn't have happened to ANYONE but it was Ron's fault. He caused it. I don't know why anyone would be bitching at the cops, they had nothing to do with the accident. It all lies on Ron's lap, and he's going to have to suffer the consequences of his foolishness, as will the family members of those he killed.

Live with that fact, OK?

4. I think the writer's position was clumsily stated.
In some cases, the knowledge of what one did under the influence or while unmedicated for a mental illness problem really is punishment enough, especially when damage was done to his/her own family. Andrea Yates comes to mind. I can't imagine what she's suffered since they managed to get her away from that preacher and get her properly medicated.

Not in this case, though. I doubt anybody poured drinks down his throat. He chose to drink. He chose to drive. He needs to be gotten off the street until he grows up and preferably finds a reason to get sober.

6. i agree. But i think he wanted drinks, he certainly had no intention/desire to kill,
i do agree he certainly should not be driving, and face consequences for his actions...
His friends say he should not face a life-sentence, and that is probably reasonable. again, not saying he should not face stiff consequences.

5. What will o'really say about this? As far as the comments
from those who knew the driver, i don't think they mean to devalue the people hurt or killed (i don't get that impression) but they are saying that the driver doesn't deserve a life sentence because he did not intend to harm people.

What bothers me more is the hate that was exhibited on this very website when a driver was an immigrant, and the victims not immigrants. They wanted to hang the whole immigrant community.
