Accountability watch: How many US govt/BP employees have been fired over the Gulf catastrophe?
I think accountability is important. President Obama has already made it clear teachers need to be accountable for their students' performance. It would seem the destruction of the Gulf of Mexico is just as important as failing to prepare a student for a high stakes standardized test. How many employees of the US government and BP have resigned or been fired as a result of the catastrophe in the Gulf? I know Elizabeth Birnbaum resigned as director of MMS soon after the explosion at the Deepwater platform. Anyone else?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/mar/10/obama-calls-accountability-education/

President Obama on Tuesday put the nation's teachers on notice that their performance will be tracked and good teachers will be rewarded, while bad teachers will be tossed out of the classroom.

Calling for a "new culture of accountability" in schools, Mr. Obama proposed building on rather than replacing the No Child Left Behind education law signed by President Bush. But Mr. Obama said it's time to put more money, better tracking of teachers' performance, higher standards and real accountability behind the law.

3. I doubt anyone's been fired and I doubt anyone will be.
Only 11 people killed. Hardly worth investigating.

:sarcasm:

4. No, in this world, the question is how many have been promoted.
War is peace. Ignorance is strength.

6. There are definitely eleven
who are no longer on the payroll. I'm not interested in firing anyone just yet, but I would like to see them re-purposed to do everything possible to clean up this mess, and stop this gusher.

After that is accomplished, then maybe it's time to see who should be set adrift.

7. i think tracking this is a good idea.
it would be interesting to know who lost their jobs over this. And it is evidence of how serious the string of decisions that led to the explosion are taken. to what extend did the cost benefit analysis of various options sway various decisions? What was not spent? What was the cost? Who advocated for safety? who advocated for thrift? who is still employed?

8. Excellent post. Given the scope of the disaster, there should be maximum transparency. The People
need to know what the government and BP have done and are doing.

9. it's also a particular slice of the accountability pie
and will reflect who was blamed, which is not necessarily who was responsible.

23. Of course not. Accountability, like their religion, is a selective
thing, for the small people, gay people, teachers, some kid with a dime bag. Fodder.
