Public Health PSA
Well folks I tend to post these every so often, but they also serve as personal (anecdotal) experience to try to inspire you.

Well back in the day I was really over the top... weight wise. Partly that was Avandia but that's another story. So I decided that I needed to do something about it, but I got knee problems, so exercise machines can be tricky.

Well I went and bought a Gazelle...yeah found one at May Company and got it home. Back then, after assembling the damn thing, I could do three minutes on it, and I was done. Yes, I was in really bad shape.

Now like most people who are in bad shape I wanted to get fit like yesterday, but I knew better, from training cadets well in another life time. So I started at three... that is the MOST I could do, and started parking farther away at the store. Slowly but surely I increased my time as my endurance built. After a good two years, not only I lost over thirty pounds but the Gazelle stopped being a challenge. So I went ahead and replaced it with an Elliptical. Nothing fancy... in fact a base model on sale at Sears.

And I started on that slowly, since it was harder to do. Well I just got off the machine after a good 20 minute work out... and if you asked me back in the early days of the Gazelle about that I'd laugh.

Now I am not going to go into all the benefits of exercise, we all know they are well trodden. But what I am going to tell you is... you too can do this... slowly but surely, increase how far you park, carry an extra bag... or slightly more weight in a backpack, start SLOWLY on an aerobic machine. It is doable... just don't expect this to come overnight, I don't care how many snake oil salesmen tell you on the TEEVEE you can do this in 90 days...

And now for some resistance training... to build some muscle.

1. I lost 20 lb last year, and the car being stolen is how I have kept it all off.
Funny how these things work out.

Walking is ever so much easier now than it was at the start. And yeah, parking farther away was always one of my tricks over the years.......
