Alan Colmes smacks down tea bagger
I was used to seeing Colmes getting pushed around back when he was co-host with Sean Hannity on Fox, so it's cool to see him smackdown Ed Martin's absurd arguments that President Obama and Russ Carnahan are trying to prevent people from "finding salvation."

<skip>

(5:26) Colmes: Is anybody forcing you to pay for an abortion or to have an abortion?
Martin : My tax dollars are going for abortions!!!
Colmes: Your tax dollars are not going to abortion. So, is there any other way in which your religion is being infringed upon?
Martin: Of course, as I've said over and over again, I'm glad to talk about it, is when you have a government that takes over health care, for example...
Colmes: They haven't taken over health care. I wish they would but they haven't done that.
Martin: Of course they have:
Colmes: They haven't taken over health care. There's not a public option. There's not single-payer. What are you talking about?
Martin: If this is the way you want to do an interview...
Colmes: But you're misrepresenting the facts!

1. Thanks for posting this
Colmes got a lot of flak from the left simply because Hannity was the "attractive" guy on on their show. He's always been a "good guy" and a loyal liberal, even if he often got steamrolled on their show.

This is an example of Colmes at his best, challenging and refuting RW talking points.

5. I like Colmes now
When he was still with Hannity several times he uttered the phrase,"I'm a moderate."

He was a clown on Fox

28. Really? I didn't know that.
Like PLD, my first thought went to family dinners and holidays, LOL! In that family, though, politics at the dinner table might be out of bounds, with Alan and Monica there. :)

26. no, colmes got a lot of flak from the left for letting hannity et al walk all over him..
thus perpetuating the myth of the so-called weak liberal. good to see colmes stand up to this idiot.

31. Colmes got a lot of flak because he was obviously taking a fall...
over and over again.
But the money was good.

34. He certainly was the "fall guy" on the show
There were times when he was good. It's just that Hannity was usually better, and more skilled at dominating a discussion. I don't think Colmes was intentionally pulling his punches--he was simply outmatched, which is probably why he was picked for the job.

3. Colmes is always mild mannered and dispassionate. Which is

not really the approach one would want to take when dealing with Hannitard and the other bots at Fox. You want someone who can attack and keep the momentum in the argument.

I skimmed one of his books once, it just seemed like he was apologizing to conservatives for being liberal.

17. If that's the case, he did himself and his fans a huge disservice
by being a punching bag for the likes of Spawn Hannity.

21. Al Franken confronted him about this and wrote about it in "Lies..."
Apparently, he confronted Colmes at a WH Correspondents Association Dinner and tried to give him some stuff to use on his show against Hannity and Colmes reportedly demurred and told him that that wasn't how their show worked (going after each other).

Al also wrote about his first encounter with "Irish Ape-Man" Hannity and their argument about Limbaugh and how Hannity had apparently told his audience the story of their encounter ending with Al being escorted away by "Fox Security", which Al later found out had been Colmes.

Surreal stuff, really.

18. Started listening to him about a week ago...
Heard this interview and thought he did a really good job of maintaining his composure while trying to get the caller to validate his points.

Seems like he gets a lot of non liberal/progressive callers, which might be a good thing.

9. Anybody remember the "Washington Generals"?
They were the basketball team that was created for the specific purpose of getting the crap kicked out of them every night by the Harlem Globetrotters.

And they did, year after year, as far back as the 40's. As far as I know, it still may be going on, in some form.

Alan Colmes was the Fuxsnooze version of the Washington Generals. His job was to play the buffoon and make the ignorant hannity look brilliant and charismatic.

He did his job well. Unfortunately he allowed himself to be stereotyped as a spineless and brainless wuss.

We know nothing of the real Alan Colmes, but I'm encouraged to read he can attack like this.

16. I longed for the day when Colmes reached across the desk
and took that cheap ball-point pen that Hannity always waves around, and shoved it right into Hannity's ear.

But alas, it wasn't to be........

Thanks for the radio info. It would be nice though, wouldn't it, to see Colmes, just once, go postal on Hannity's ass. After playing the wimp role for so long, he's probably got some deep reserves of resentment. :)
