Just got back from another great 'Reggae On The River' (Humboldt County)
I've been working on the crew for this festival since the early 80s. This is one of the coolest events on the planet. The weather was gorgeous (so were the hippie goddesses). Two days of great reggae bands, good vibrations, and the finest Humboldt buds. Gotta love it!

Just a few pics. The performer in the photos is Messenjah Selah, who did an awesome set of reggae (and speaking truth to power). Sly and Robbie were the headliners. The first pic is from very early in the day. The place was packed later.

The only down side was the death of Sugar Minott, who was scheduled to perform, but died a few days before the event. There was an all-star tribute to him at the end of the show that was amazing.

1. I haven't been to Reggae on the River in years!
I went a couple of times in the early '90s.

Good times, man, good times!

5. PM me if you want to work. I'll put you on my crew next year.
You get free admission, which is worth $85-$100, a paid campsite, a crew T-shirt, 3 meals a day, and backstage access. Not bad!

3. Do you know a local Humbolt guy, white, long dreads

very into pot culture, who works the festival? I *think* his name might be Mike, but can't remember a last name. He also does blown glass?

6. Not offhand, but I'll bet I've seen him around.
I lived in southern Humboldt for 15 years. I'm in Sonoma County now, but I'm planning to move back to Humboldt.

4. Saw Ziggy Marley Sunday night.

He was the final act of a 4 day world music festival I've been attending for about 12 years now. What a great show, what an amazing festival. Can't wait until next year. :hippie:

11. Yeah, but they screwed it up pretty good. Some folks got a little greedy.
They got power hungry from working many years of Reggae On The River, and decided to split from the Mateel Community Center, and do their own show. I know all the folks on both sides of the issue, and it was really sad to watch the greed destroy the good vibrations that went on for so many years. ROTR had always brought similar financial benefit to the community. It was stupid to do another show to compete with it, and fuck the MCC.

Thanks for that link!

8. I am so glad that this event is the only one...
The Reggae Rising bullshit was so bad. Love that reggae is now the only game in the town...Been a number of times and loved it for sure. Worked on a few crews too...

9. Yeah, that whole deal was crazy.
The good guys (The Mateel) have won though. ROTR may go back to being a huge event next time around. It's in the works.

That whole thing was just awful. And then to blow it all up and owe so many people so much money....Instant karma.
