Poll question: How will you feel if Obama and Congress extend the Bush Tax Cuts for people earning > $250,000??
I assume Obama will keep the tax cuts for those earning < $250,000. But what if they also extend the Bush tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000.....

3. The only way that will happen is
If a coalition of all Republicans and enough DLC Scaredycrats pass a budget that extends the tax cuts for the rich, which could override an Obama veto.

In other words, they would need a 2/3rd vote, which I don't think they have.

8. Yes I am
He has been denouncing the taxcuts for the wealthy so much of late that I am convinced he would veto such a scheme.

4. Except that my "support" for them is pretty damn shaky already. They have to prove themselves
to me before I come back to their side.

At this point, continuing to do more bad shit they do will not weaken my support - it already is at zero.

I hold out a little hope that they will come back from the Dark Side, but only a very little.

7. Other... Obama and Congress?
Obama and Congress? I really don't like the poll questions at all. Reminds me of a News Max poll I took last week.

Do you think the media is treating Obama the same as they treated GW Bush?

1 - Yes, they are treating him the same.

2 - No, they treated Bush more harshly.

10. It would be a mark against any Democrat who votes to extend the tax cuts...
to those making more than $250,000.00 a year.

I will compare each person I vote for against the other candidates and vote for the one who I think best fits my my interests and the nation's interests.

But it won't affect state, county, or city offices. They did not have a say in that decision. And considering that Democrats are running against Republicans, I can not at this time imagine it changing my vote from supporting a Democrat to supporting a Republican.

12. Stop adding to the "raise taxes" theme - it's merely reinstating what was in
place previously, right? :spank:

I think that's how it should be presented -- 'reinstating' not 'new' or 'raise'.

I voted I'd be disappointed, because we need the revenue! Not sure if it would affect my votes in the future - probably not.

15. What a lousy set of choices. And piss poor framing.
I want those tax cuts GONE. We are fighting two wars. I want 80% on the rich until peace is declared. Then negotiate it down to 50%. I WANT OUR WARS PAID FOR. And I want it paid by the privileged assholes who send others to fight and die.

17. Other really
It will be a very bad move that could easily be messaged to gain widespread support to do the opposite, but it would not have any affect at all on my level of support. I vote for the best candidate who has a chance of winning, so only being worse than a Republican option would affect my level of support (unless by some miracle IRV appeared).

I'm forever stuck pondering articles like this one http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/17/business/economy/17consumers.html?_r=1 .

It makes a certain sense, if you think about it, but the conclusion is usually soundly denied as impossible.

Hence, "Meh."

On edit:

If it's not obvious, "Meh" counts as "Other" since it's not one of the poll choices. :-)

Will it make me change my support for Dems? Anybody who answered yes to that is lying, because the same people say that every day about Democrats. The 'sky is falling' crowd is becoming indistinguishable from Faux "News".

27. What will be really interesting is what happens if Republicans block any extension unless they are
all extended?

We can't use reconciliation since we didn't pass a budget.

In that case, when 2011 rolls around, the possibly Republican House will keep sending to the Senate (and/or to Obama with the Senate) a bill that extends all the tax cuts, and no partial tax cut extensions for people under 250k.

In that case, what would Obama do? I think he would veto any bill that extends them for over 250k. He can blame the Republicans for not passing a bill for people who make less than 250k, and set up a winning issue for 2012.
