1. Should be fired.
I didn't listen to or watch whatever it was he said about the Sherrod thing.

He should never have been appointed to begin with, and I supported kicking his ass to the curb before this particular event.

Monsanto's boy doesn't belong in any administration that influences agricultural policy and practice in the U.S..

2. Did the right thing, but should have never been hired.

Not that he's not qualified, he's just the wrong choice. He doesn't deserve to be fired for this.

12. If he doesn't deserve to be fired for this, then there is no grounds whatsoever for ANY firing.
Someone said today this was a slow lynching, and that describes it well.

He needs to be shown the door by a security guard, with NO opportunity to gather is personal belongings.

14. This is just low on the scale of fireable offenses
Take a look at Bush's Interior Department or Justice Department if you want to find some real offensive stuff.

16. I am sick of people hiding behind *'s skirts.
There is one talented and beautiful woman who was deeply wronged.

It says a lot about our country, and what it says isn't something to be proud of.

FUCK the * shit!

23. She was wronged and it was corrected
But things happen in life and everything isn't a CATASTROPHE. This has been dealt with appropriately. And doing what Vilsak did by publicly apologizing and admitting mistake is a difficult thing for a politician to do. This is pretty much a done deal unless Sherrod chooses to sue.

28. NOTHING was corrected! It was all about *him*. Is HE now protecting her from the death threats?
I recognize that for many, what happened to her wasn't a "catastrophe". Just saying that shows the heartlessness.

4. I didn't see it but
he should be fired anyway. With any luck maybe he can be replaced with someone who isn't such a whore for industrial ag. He's way out of step with what Michelle Obama is working on.

8. What does firing him do other then please Faux and co?
Then they can say they took down a cabinet member. Why do we fall into this trap? He made a mistake and apologized for it.

10. In an alternate universe, Obama would appoint
someone to his position who is not a shill for Monsanto.

That would have more positive impact, now and down the road, than Vilsack will ever produce.

9. If Vilsack actually acted without talking to at least the chief of staff
I will be amazed.

I have a really hard time believing that Vilsack made the decision entirely on his own.

30. Yeah. I don't believe that version either.
But, he did what he was supposed to do at the presser and it looks like Sherrod will get a promotion out of it. That's something.

11. He did the right thing.
It seems some really don't give a shit about the woman and what happened, but only want to get their licks in against another one in the cabinet that they wouldn't have chosen. He was wrong, he said so.

I deeply give a shit about the owman.

his best excuse. I suppose we should be grateful that he's not Sec of Defense or State.

31. I think he rather nobly fell on his sword...
...if, as I strongly suspect, the panic originated in the White House.

I rather doubt that he had time to be noble on behalf of his employee, though.
