Why the hell is the lead story on the evening news about the WH apologizing.
WHY is the story not about the Entertainment channel and the racist blogger that perpetuated this lie.

1. Because that would require some in the media to scrutinize themselves and that won't
happen.

13. exactly....that's their standard ops. They refused to report the Swifts were lying, refused to

air Kerry's speech attacking the Swifts and Bush's hiding behind them, few reported it even happened, then media claimed after the election that Kerry never hit back. And too many people believe that revisionism...even Dems.

How many media outlets discussed in length that O'Keefe's video was HEAVILY EDITED to distort the view of ACORN and its workers?

15. It was funny watching Chuck Todd twist himself into bizarre contortions,
trying to downplay the media's involvement. In his mumbo jumbo he did admit that it was the media's fault, but did not point to where the blame lied.

Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 05:44 PM by tom_paine
Breitbart will be wholly shielded. It will either be the "It's Obama's Fault" script or the old "It's Another Race Story" script.

Amazing how that works, eh? Just like the old Soviet Union but with much more subtlety and Plausible Deniability.

7. Nah they no longer are that sleek
when they can be predicted to that level, they no longer are sleek... or deniable.

Problem is most Muricans have never heard propaganda... until now, at this level. So they are having a problem comprehending that the nooze is propaganda... not news.

17. I guess I was speaking about that "most", which still remains above 90%, I think
Maybe 95% or even 99.9%.

It's one of those things that can't be truly quantified.

You said:

Amen to that but it's so much more, I speculate. It's so tied into our collective notion of self-worth that WE could NEVER be fooled by something like THAT. That's for "those other people" like the Russians, Chinese and Germans.

We surprise, surprise, being convinced a thing is an impossibility makes it that much more likely that such a thing will come to pass.

Karl Jaspes said it best in his essay "The Fight Against Totalitarianism".

http://evans-experientialism.freewebspace.com/jaspers02.htm

Carl Sagan, in his book "The Demon Haunted World" also described this phenomena as (I am paraphrasing) "when a bamboozle captures us past a certain degree, we become extraordinarily resistant to it's debunking, even when the facts are laid out before our eyes".

No matter how this well-documented phenomena is described, from what angle or position, the worst about it is that it refutes much of the excellent ideas of The Enlightenment. Psychology killed the Enlightenment by teaching us (and our Powerful Aristocracy took special note, I have no doubt) that the idea that people were or could be educated into rational beings is utterly false.

I mean you, me and EVERYONE. However much we try to fight it, ultimately we are the same infantile bundles of emotions, illogic, and rationalizations that everyone else is.

That may be the biggest tragedy of all. After a millenia of Medieval Feudalism, the Enlgihtenment came along to show us what we could strive to be, what kind of better woreld we could leave when we pass. Now that science has, sadly, disproved the basic tenets of the Enlightenment, apparently it's back to Feudalism we shall go by the shortest possible, yet plausibly deniable, path.

18. People need to pick up two books
Upton Sinclair's It Can't Happen Here, and The True Believer by Eric Hoffer.

Notice how old both are.

But there is still a chance we might turn away from the dark night, though I don't count on it. Not any longer. I mean... I NEED TO GET MY FIX... (insert product here) to be happy and keep up with the Jonesses. Which is part of the problem.

Here is one example, a DU'er pointed out the Startlet going to jail while war criminals walk, and people fell on DU'er for the Startlet. Well in a system of justice that works, both the DUI offender and the war criminal would be at the docket. But people cannot see just how far the system has been corrupted, that the wealthy Starltet goes to jail (Lohan) while the extremely wealthy but well connected war criminals don't have to worry. People cannot connect those dots.

After all the American myth is a powerful drug. But I think more and more people are connecting the propaganda. Is it at a tipping point? I don't know... perhaps we are. I sure can dream.

9. The mistake was accepting Fox News as a legitimate
news source, which is what the administration and most other TV News channel did. Can't talk about the reality behind the news though.

11. No. The point is the WH was misled by "news" reports and made
a decision based on those reports. THAT is what the story is. The small part of the story should be that the WH apologized.

25. Sorry, but I am watching the news as I do most nights. I watch Olbermann
at some point in the evening also.

I am disturbed by your reference to Nursing Home residents, also. My folks are in a Senior home, and my mother has moved into hospice care. I would prefer that derogatory remarks not be made about elderly people.

Thank you.

31. I would say that some elderly love their 24-hour news.
In the ALF portion of my folks place, there is very little news shown. It's really a hodgepodge of stuff shown on TV. I'm sure there are many places that just turn the tv on and show fox entertainment.

Interestingly, my dad refuses to listen to the radio anymore, because of the right wing noise on. I remember growing up building little radios with diodes and crystals and being so impressed with being able to pick up stations a thousand miles away and learning about those communities. That is completely dead now.

33. LOL, It seems the Obama administration can multi-task much better than some DUers...
I guess you missed the signing of the finance reform bill and the passage in the Senate of the extension of unemployment benefits, things "real people" care about.

It seems they are doing exactly what you state you want from them, go figure.
