Maxine Waters: Shirley Sherrod Tape ‘Planted by the Enemy’ – ‘Right-Wing Press’

ABC News’ Gregory Simmons reports: At the Urban League’s Centennial Celebration today in Washington, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., delivered a scathing response to the White House and U.S. Department of Agriculture’s handling of the Shirley Sherrod fallout.

“Here you had a woman who basically had a great history of evidently had done her job and had done it well, she said. “And all of a sudden because of a lack of courage by people in leadership they responded to a video that was done by the enemy.”

“The enemy,” according to Waters, is the conservative media. “The same people enemy that just killed off ACORN and other things,” she said. “The right-wing press is using that platform to literally do their organizing, to intimidate you and basically run this country.”

Waters went on to rip, although not directly by name, into Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsak and deputy undersecretary Cheryl Cook, whom Waters suggested ignored Sherrod’s experience and reputation. “Disregarded all of that and said to her pull over to the side of the road and give us your resignation on your Blackberry,” she said.

Waters offered a solution: “We’ve got to say to folks in leadership whether it’s the White House or anywhere else, don’t be so afraid of white folks that you treat black people bad. Don’t be so afraid that somebody thinks that you’re going help black people too much.”

The Congresswoman concluded by offerings some free media advice. “You cannot live in the moment of responding to the right-wing press. It’s about courage. It is about standing up. It is about not being intimidated by anybody. It’s about being able to say to people bring it on.”

5. I don't think we should let any body connected to this rush to

a "firing" ever forget it. They should be reminded over and over that Glen Beck, Fox, Rush and the right wing Aholes don't run this country. We do, the voters and it is time we stood and were counted.

I think people in congress and in this and any administration have the mistaken notion that they are the ones who are in charge. They might have the platform, because WE put them there. And I tell you this we should have our own organization to get people to run against them in PRIMARIES and sweep them out of office. Forget all the so called Democratic organizations we have now like the DNC etc we should start our own. The Peoples organization and get some muscle.
