Edited on Sat Aug-07-10 02:14 PM by Kadie

Elena Kagan is sworn in as the Supreme Court's newest member as Chief Justice John Roberts, right, administers the judicial oath, at the Supreme Court Building in Washington, Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010. The Bible is held by Jeffrey Minear, center, counselor to the chief justice. Kagan, 50, who replaces retired Justice John Paul Stevens, becomes the fourth woman to sit on the high court and is the first Supreme Court justice in nearly four decades with no previous experience as a judge.

10. I wish she would've used something other than a bible
Anything to make the reich wing's heads explode, such as the Guru Granth Sahib, Vedas, or (gasp!) the Qur'an.

14. It looks to me like a Torah
Too big to be a standard bible. (An aside: Wikipedia says that when she was 12 she made a huge issue of wanting to read from the Torah at her bat mitzvah, which was unthinkable for a female at her Orthodox synagogue, and still is. She finally compromised with the rabbi and read from the Book of Ruth. Good for her!)

12. Congrats and good wishes to Justice Kagan. I also noted about a
10-15 pound weight loss. Jeffy Sessions would do that to anyone. I loved when she spoke a few words the other day when she said (paraphrasing)...I met with...73(?) senators...but who's counting?..The audience loved it..

13. Love the pics
Hate the captions. Stupid AP.

If they wanted to "flesh out" the accompanying text, they could have pointed out that with the addition of Justice Kagan, the SCOTUS is now populated by the most number of females EVAR!!!!1!
