Are they totally insane and will, therefore, run some nutcase like Palin? Or will they get a clue, HAHAHA, and run a moderate? But wait, does a moderate Rethug exist????

3. If they keep on with their "Repeal the 14th Amendment" line
they won't win another Presidential election in the next 20 years no matter whom they run.

Edited on Sat Aug-07-10 06:26 PM by AnArmyVeteran
If they eliminated the 14th Amendment they will never win the presidency again. With all the ammo the republicans have given them the democrats should pick up seats in November (if the democrats actually chose to use that ammo).

8. I believe that also.
People used to accuse Dems of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Looks like it definitely works on both sides of the aisle. Fortunately!

4. I think it's Romney's turn.
I don't think it will be Palin.

Repukes usually (not always, though) go the predictable route with whomever has been waiting in the wings since the last election.

23. Second on Romney
He seems to be the most "presentable" and least insane Republican that I think they can offer up right now. However, I suspect that, privately, they realize that they are (likely) NOT going to win in 2012, so they'll want to save any "big guns" for 2016.

I know that a lot of people think Palin will undoubtedly run in 2012 but I actually don't see her running for ANYTHING on a national level. Being a public servant is hard work for (relatively) little pay. As long as she's getting mileage and lots of $$$ from her appearances, books, tweets, etc., she won't want to get off that *gravy train*. Besides, how is she going to make the case that she can manage at least 4 years as POTUS when she couldn't manage the stress and headaches of being Governor of Alaska for a single 4-year team????!!!

Newt???? Really????? He's damaged goods despite all of the free publicity that the corporate mediawhores continue to (inexplicably) give him. His "schtick" might still work well in the South and other areas where conservatives are popular but he couldn't get enough votes to win nationally. Besides, he's way too polarizing.

Jeb??? Bush-blues still ever-present. He will probably need to wait until 2016 or beyond if he ever wants to seriously pursue the Presidency IMHO.

26. I also think Romney will be the nominee in 2012, mainly because Jeb
Bush is smart enough to know that a pub is most likely not going to win in 2012. He's waiting until 2016, when the howling about all the damn libruls will be at its peak, and 8 years have passed so all the dimwits won't remember what exactly happened under little brother Bush. By then, Dubya will have been rehabilitated just like that worthless old fuck Reagan.

33. Good point
Good luck, though, polishing that turd of a Bush. In a sane world, Bush would NEVER be able to be rehabilitated. Sadly, we both know that we don't live in such a world. :banghead:

13. I'm betting on Newt making an attempt.
Whether he wins the primary, I don't know, but I think he'll run. I also see Cuccinelli from VA making an attempt either in 2012 or 2016 (of course, I'm also assuming that Obama will be reelected).

I think the likelihood of the GOP letting Palin anywhere near the nomination is almost nil. For starters, I doubt she wants it, since she's making a ton off speaking fees, and secondly, the GOP knows deep down that even she is too batshit insane to try and woo anything but the absolute bottom of the barrel on the right.

24. Cooch has a bit of a problem...
namely the Republican governor of his own commonwealth loathes him and is so frustrated by his inability to not say crazy shit or not take extremist positions that he's quietly soliciting for something he can use to urge him to "want to spend more time with (his) family." (Cooch to my understanding has returned that favor.) McDonnell wants to position himself as a viable appealing moderate for a Presidential run. Ever seen What About Bob? Cooch is like Bob to McDonnell's Dr. Marvin.

It's pretty bad when your own teammate thinks you're a problematic dick and is willing to play Caiaphas to get rid of you. It makes me think he's got no upward mobility as the "powers-that-be" are already dealing with one egotist who has gotten too big to be cute anymore and won't stop kicking the apple cart in Palin.

Hey, maybe she'll endorse him for something. It'd be like the double kiss-of-death when they turn on each other.

17. Romney has a slim chance but probably someone obscure.
Someone who wasn't part of the Bush administration, isn't a member of Congress, and who can pretend they had nothing to do with the Republican disasters of the last decade. That's part of the appeal with Romney and Palin, but I doubt it will be either of them. Palin is too discredited and many GOP primary voters still won't support a Mormon.

18. It would not surprise me if they recruited Jeb Bush...
Edited on Sat Aug-07-10 07:03 PM by hlthe2b
Since that might settle down the Palin teabagger crowd in a way that Romney most certainly would not. Given they have painted the Bush*s as somehow being the model Rethugs (after Raygun, of course)and tried hard to paint Jeb as the "smart one," it would not surprise me at all. Especially when they see the damage done by the looney teabaggers in 2010 and the RETHUGS who pandered to them (think Gingrich), I'm betting they will try hard to get Jebbie in.

I would never underestimate the insanity of some voters, so suggest we NOT assume any of their ilck to be less than "serious" candidates.

To predict what the RW will do, you need to try to think like you'd had a frontal lobotomy, had "Daddy" complex, big time, and can not remember (or refuse to) what happened yesterday, relying only on the facts from today's Faux news.

21. Jeb's the likely choice.
They're all about image manipulation, and will likely figure that being married to a (rich) hispanic will endear them to the the people whom they're spread-eagling on the cop cars all over the Southwest. Just like they figure black people can't see past Steele's face and hear the hateful things he says. And Fox will have everything revised to the point that Obama inherited budget surpluses from Pretzel Boy and crashed our economy so that only another Bush can get us out.

36. Someone they know will lose
I think it will be a replay of 1996 all over again: they'll run someone ancient who, if he won, would receive the presidency as a reward for all his years of loyal and dedicated service to America and who, if they fucked up and he actually won the thing, wouldn't cause too much damage to Brand GOP. IOW, Bob Dole for the 21st Century. The real contest is 2016.

Besides, Obama hasn't finished un-fucking Bush's disaster.
