If Gibbs is fired or resigns, Obama should get due credit
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 06:21 PM by quinnox
I have been very critical of Obama for various reasons, but this is an important moment where he could do the right thing. If he fires Gibbs or makes him resign, then it will give a good sign that maybe, just maybe, there is still time left to turn this ship around before it is too late. Fingers crossed.

If nothing happens and it is business as usual, I shudder at the future of his presidency. I can see a one term presidency after the Dems get blown out this November and a complete Republican takeover in 2012.

The Dems are in the fourth quarter, and down by a touchdown, time to get serious and up their game.

1. Not gonna happen
Edited on Wed Aug-11-10 06:24 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The perceived political cost of "caving" to the left would be quite high in Obama's way of thinking.

t would have been better to not say the stuff because it's lousy politics on top of being gross.

But once said, it becomes a test of Obama's ability to "stand up" to the left.

Self-inflicted injury, but bottom line is:

Gibbs ain't goin' nowhere.

24. I agree that it won't happen, BUT..........
Gibbs "resigning" and Warren actually being appointed would be a BIG step forward in my book.

2. Gibbs is a symptom, not the cause. Why would his leaving cause a change in the course of . . .
. . . . the ship of state?

4. I could care less if he is fired, the sentiment is pervasive in the administration
Which is virtually nothing but a Who's who of the DLC stars and non-teabagger Republicans so that should be expected.

5. It was a message from Obama. If he fires Gibbs, it'll be even worse
because he's too much of a cowardly politician to do his own dirty work.

believes.

I don't know why y'all are so quick to blame him. You should be blaming Obama. The only thing Gibbs did wrong was let the cat out of the bag.

But you guys knew that Obama wasn't a progressive right? ROFL

7. such melodrama...... Obama is not going to fire a good friend because of a gaffe
He's not the kind to toss his friends to the curb over something as minor as this.

And yes.... It is very minor.

Some badly chosen words, thats all.

Let's try to maintain a sense of perspective here.

It would be a dickish move to fire and publicly humiliate a guy for this.

And Obama's not a dick.

14. He would have been asked to fall on his sword immediately
If this wasn't so. It's why I posted my OP on this earlier today. Why should he be fired or asked to resign for doing his job exactly as he was asked to?

16. Nah
Most folks have no idea who Robert Gibbs is, let alone anything he might have said. And those who do somehow find out are as likely to shrug as be offended or overjoyed. Obama will be judged in 2012 on whether or not you and your friends have a job. If so, he wins by a mile. If not, the Democrats will have to work hard to be sure blame for the continued economic slump is affixed to the Republicans.

18. Gibbs won't be fired..
and by not doing so, Obama is expressing his approval of his remarks. The last few days, indeed the last year and a half, have been a real eye opener for me, and boy do I feel used.

20. It didn't upset Fox news
listeners so he isn't going anywhere. He couldn't give a shit about his base and he's made that clear. Michael Moore's comments last night on Keith are correct, they hate the fact that the "left' has beenright about so many things.

26. A Press Secretary blasts the base of the president's party and nothing happens?
I'm honestly beginning to believe President Obama knows he will not run for re-election and those closest to him know it too.
At this rate, things look very dismal for Obama --- and what might have been.
