Gov. Dean, you really can't conduct good faith negotiations with right wing bigots
Edited on Thu Aug-19-10 07:13 PM by MrScorpio
There is no good faith when they believe in nothing but their own bigotry.

When you compromise your rights, you lose.

2. Usually I enjoy listening to him
But I just shut off the sound. Starting off with compromise in mind is starting off already a loser. He knows who the opposition is here as well as anyone, I am surprised that he even thinks that a reasonable solution is possible with the most unreasonable people in America.

3. I think he is not talking about those
but compromise with the American Taliban is just crazy.

4. This is one of those win-win situations for republicans.
If it stays, Obama is a muslim sympathizer at the very least.
If it moves then American conservatives win against the terrorists.
I know it makes no sense but silly BS seems to work best with that crowd.

6. Problem is it is high time to draw that fucking line
on the fucking sand. And our leaders are NOT doing that... this is just so damn insane.

Black is white kind of thinking anymore.

I realize how close we might be to ... an actual civil war... I mean a hot one. But this is just insane. If this is trying to avoid that... it won't

9. Like it or not this a conservative trap cooked up at a national level.
To benefit conservative candidates everywhere. I understand his point that only the locals should be involved but the heavy hitters have made this issue their own and they mean to dominate the issue to their own benefit. There is no longer any way to exclude the Limbaughs and McConnells and Angles from this discussion. No matter what happens it will be spun to the benefit of the teabaggers.

10. Like it or not Dean did not say what the thread implies.
"There is no longer any way to exclude the Limbaughs and McConnells and Angles from this discussion."

Bullshit. And what better vid could we have to show their insanity than to have them attempt to crash a meeting between survivors and the Imam. We are noit the only "clear thinkers" in the USA.

16. They don't have to crash any meeting.
They have their own kangaroo court of public opinion to try democrats in with the conclusion already in the bag. Any meeting they might have has no real bearing on how the assholes will use this to try to beat democrats. The time for a meeting was before the teabaggers got rolling with this. It is now too late, the damage is done, and it would not surprise me if one or more mosques get firebombed within the next couple of weeks and even that will not hurt the teabaggers.

18. It is time to show how civilized people behave.
Otherwise the whackos will always win. You can't get out in front of these freaks.

21. The wackos have control of dialog right now.
It is their trap and they are playing it well. There is no way to get control of it at this point. We have a bunch of democrats right off the bat rolling over to save their political asses. I am sick of these guys always bowing to even the most inconsequential pressure from the right when all it does is put blood in the water. All Howard Dean did just now was give Fox news another headline that will read something like "Dean and others disagree with Muslim president over radical ground zero mosque".

24. The only thing I am giving up on is this discussion.
The Democrats gave up months ago. They have been caught flatfooted by every one of these no win traps that the right have come up with. If they do not start right now really punching back hard and continue to bring library books to knife fights then they deserve any loses they suffer. America loves a good kick to the groin and we have been doubled up on the ground since day one. I love a reasonable person as much as most of us here but the sad fact is that most of the uninformed electorate loves a guy who can be an total prick when the situation calls for it.

14. I doubt it

IMHO this thing will backfire.

When you get down to a basic issue like religious freedom, even people caught up in temporary passions will largely come to their senses.

8. And there's no compromise when it's all supposed to come from one
side.

I thought he understood that, even if too many others in the Dem. leadership seem to miss it.

He kept talking about negotiations. That implies both sides are interested in finding a resolution.

There's no interest here on the side of the bigots.

15. If you think that people who object to this building
are not on the side of the American Taliban, you're kidding yourself. Either knowingly or not, they are aiding those who glory in unabashed bigotry.

This is about confusing all Muslims with terrorists. And I don't really care who is doing that, it's wrong.

While I'm sure that there are a fair number who need some education to see that their immediate reaction is based in unwarranted fear and prejudice, asking those who are being victimized here (the Muslim Americans wishing to build a community center and foster tolerance) to give in because others are uncomfortable is wrong.

20. I do not think that everyone who objects thinks like Gingrich.
In fact I do believe that when reasoable people are brought to the table and the facts are presented it will be a different story. The whackos fear such dialogue, especially in the face of their Fox-Media firestorm.
