Why does Clemens get an indictment while Yoo gets off?
In May 2009, the Justice Department decided that no one responsible for the "torture memo" that authorized "enhanced interrogation techniques" would be prosecuted: it had already decided not to prosecute anyone who had actually perpetrated torture. There will be no consequences for violating the Constitution and the international treaties to which the US is a signatory.

But if Roger Clemens dares to lie to Congress about his steroid use, it's time to bring on the federal grand jury indictments! They will make a federal case of this, in which the main harm was done to Clemens himself, but John Yoo and the other Bush-era Torquemadas are free to enjoy their liberty. This is what a world gone mad looks like.

1. The Bush US Attorney scandal was even worse than that!

But under Holder & Obama's DOJ, they walked too. Despite direct evidence in writing that they lied under oath!

Same with the Coal barons. And food poisoners like Peanut Corp.

2. Lying about baseball is a terrible crime!
Advocating the governmental sexual torture of children, not so much.

3. Baseball affects everyone in this country
torture is done only on a few.

And besides Clemens could be a National Security risk............

4. I think busting baseball players for roid use is another media distraction.
Not that they shouldn't be busted, but I'm sure they are just being used while the media ignores real stories.

5. Crazy system of justice
Larry Craig charges end in mistrial, Mark Sanford pays back the state but no charges, Tom Delay skates, Bush administration officials just ignore subpoenas and claim executive privilege. No wonder people are confused when they seem to target athletes mostly on hearsay evidence.

7. The thing is, that there may even be a legitimate use
Clemens was already quite old at the time of the "offense." Steroids are a powerful anti-inflammatory. Maybe he had no prescription, and maybe he took more than was needed, but there is a more than theoretical reason why he could have taken steroids. They could have been key to lengthening his career, and maybe that's why he lied about it, because he didn't want his legacy to be tainted. Which now it is.

But, really, who gives a fuck?

6. Because an indictment of Clemens ends with Clemens.
An indictment of Yoo could go anywhere and is not controllable. They are not protecting Yoo. Nobody in DC cares about him or Gonzales. They are protecting Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Shrub.
