Mayor Bloomberg talks mosque 'politics' on 'The Daily Show'

The furious debate over the proposed mosque near Ground Zero is being stoked by politicians who "don't really care one way or the other" and are only out to hustle votes, Mayor Bloomberg charged last night.

"This whole issue, I think, will go away right after the next election," Bloomberg said at a taping of "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart.

"This is plain and simple people trying to stir things up to get publicity and trying to polarize people so they can get some votes. And I don't think most of those people who are yelling and screaming really care one way or the other.

a certain 3-term Republican mayor with very limited local prospects can edge his way a little to the left to establish national credibility as a 2012 independent or DEM veep, should Biden decide to pack it in.
