United States Postal Service unveils new stamp honoring humanitarian

SACRAMENTO, CA - On Sunday, Sept. 5 the United States Postal Service unveiled a postage stamp honoring humanitarian Mother Teresa.

The unveiling took place at the courtyard in front of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Downtown Sacramento.

Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work. Noted for her compassion toward the poor and suffering, Mother Teresa, a diminutive Roman Catholic nun and honorary U.S. citizen, served the sick and destitute of India and the world for nearly 50 years.

1. well, her compassion and personal sacrifice is worth commemorating
even if her requirement that all adhere to outdated, misogynistic and ultimately harmful church doctrine does not.

That said, I'm certain this will bother many, particularly on the issue of church-state separation. The USPS may be a bit of a gray zone now, in that respect, but I won't criticize those who find that to be troubling.
